    Halloween Street Preaching

I am. Now, if you want to talk to me about this: please tell me with a "yes" or "no" if you encourage your daughter to be in a marriage with a man who threatens her, and if you think such marriage is the meaning of true love.

    Halloween Street Preaching

You didn’t answer my question. Would you tell your daughter to marry someone because they threatened her? Do you think they can have a happy marriage if everything she does is motivated to avoid a beating?

    Halloween Street Preaching

07-07-07, Do you have a daughter? If so, would you encourage her to marry a man if all you knew of that man was that if she didn't date him, that he would beat/burn/torture her? Is that a good reason for you to encourage you to encourage your daughter to marry this man?

    Am I wrong

Your real issue isn't the people, but more disagreements on theology. I would recommend studying scripture in prayer, and is the answer is... - A believer's water baptism is NOT important, then you can 1) Go to a church that believes / preaches likewise or, 2) Deal with the disagreement of...

    Banned from ChristianForums (CF)

My understanding is that they are run by two different teams that just happened to be owned by the same company (a company that doesn't really intervene with things). (Disclaimer: I'm totally not part of management in any way, this is just my understanding as a forum resident).

What Mormons Believe--according to a Former BYU Professor

Amen! It's important to remember that our salvation, our Truth, and everything good comes from God and is ultimately powered by Him. Not by anything else. Though of course, God can & does use imperfect tools to work His wonders.

And it's not the work of the human publisher, transcriber, or scribe? And that any errors they make don't stop God's work at all?

Would you agree that the power of scripture comes from God Himself, and not from the mortal publishers / transcribers / scribes ?

What Mormons Believe--according to a Former BYU Professor

<different tangent than Grailhunter's discussion> @Prayer Warrior , hypothetically, if the Bible has a misspelling, do you think it make it's message any less true? Does it in any way hamper God's ability to convey His message to a seeker?

Why do so many Christians vehemently disagree?

Because Christians are human. Humans enjoy arguing, believing they're right and the others wrong, and respect doesn't come natively.

Somebody claiming to be a prophet / servant of God doesn't hold much weight for me. Rather, if God tells me someone is His servant, that matters.

I find a far better method for determining is a person is God's servant is to ask Him.

I get that. I was just expressing why I personally don't put much stock into "was or was not this prophecy fulfilled" because it's so hard to guess/understand about what form that fulfillment will take.

I'll use an example to illustrate what I mean: A prophecy is given that a king will be born and save the Jews. Folks wait around for a king-- you know that big obvious important person that wears a literal crown of gold, to save the Jews from the oppression of Romans and cast them out. ... no...

Again, what counts as "fulfilled" seems very human-centric to me. God frequently works in ways we don't expect. Need both. Having that direct-to-God connection / relationship is critical. But other times we also need a human servant to help guide us too.

Giuliano, I want to thank you for these thoughtful posts. I agree with you on some points, disagree on others, but for all I majorly appreciate seeing thoughtfulness put into things. I actually enjoy most of your posts and the Christian way you generally approach things. Big points of...

What Mormons Believe--according to a Former BYU Professor

It is, despite the common myths. The temple is not about earning salvation. Tithing is not about earning salvation. I prefer one topic at a time. We were/are talking about salvation: giving one's everything to Him. Having a temple recommend does not equate with salvation (not remotely) and I...

What Mormons Believe--according to a Former BYU Professor

Prayer Warrior: are you aware that LDS Christians believe that there will be folks whom never paid a cent of tithing or stepped a physical foot into a temple that will be rejoicing with the Father in Heaven?
