What Mormons Believe--according to a Former BYU Professor

I literally just answered this: My personal view: It's speculation. I don' t have more than that, and that's the end of it. To explain other people's speculation requires a lot of explanation, examining Creeds, etc.

Like the God the Son. ^Not actually LDS doctrine. Rather this quote is a speculative quote and in no mean official status. You can think it's bunk and be LDS Christian 100% is good standing. To explain this quote requires a lot of background, as I previously stated.

Hence your point "this isn't in the Bible" doesn't hold much weight. I don't believe Sola Sciptura. I find it illogical and not in the Biblical (ironically).

    That is 100% speculation territory.

    LDS Christians aren't sola scriptura.

What Mormons Believe--according to a Former BYU Professor

Everything in that statement LDS Christians would agree with. If you want me to talk about any specific points, I will happily do.

What Mormons Believe--according to a Former BYU Professor

For example (note this is NOT a essential-for-salvation doctrine): Agreed belief: there is one God. Agreed belief: the Father, Son, and Spirit are three different divine persons. Point of disagreement: how are the three persons Father, Son, and Spirit one God? The classical Creedal statement...

Same. And I'm not selling you a book. This will be a rabbit hole to go down. But yes, I don't find some key Protestant doctrines to be clearly spelled out in the Bible. They are one specific interpretation of the Bible.

In your belief. Not others. With all due respect, I don't find some Protestant beliefs to not be supported by scripture alone. LDS Christians doesn't subscribe to sola scriptura, let alone sola Biblia, so that doesn't hold much weight.

With all possible due respect, Lynn Wilder's presentation of information is not accurate.

And...? LDS Christians believe their beliefs are most correct and you should join that church. Protestant Christians believe their beleifs are most correct and you should join that church (in one of it's forms). Exactly the same. Also: LDS Christians acknowledge that folks not sitting in LDS...

What Mormons Believe--according to a Former BYU Professor

This is mixing up different definitions of "church". See my previous post. Also, the "Biblical" idea here is actual the "Protestant" view. Many other Christians read that Bible and do not have that idea. =============== The Bible teaches that the God the Spirit is a spirit. LDS Christians...

What Mormons Believe--according to a Former BYU Professor

We got a couple of different definitions of "church" going on here: - A group of saved believers: LDS Christians do not constrain this to folks sitting in LDS Christian pews and acknowledging other folk can indeed be disciple of Christ (and many many are). For the most part Protestants believe...

And Protestants believe that Protestantism is the One True Church.

What Mormons Believe--according to a Former BYU Professor

Don't stop just as verse 9! 6 I marvel that ye are so soon removed from him that called you into the grace of Christ unto another gospel: 7 Which is not another; but there be some that trouble you, and would pervert the gospel of Christ. 8 But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any...

What Mormons Believe--according to a Former BYU Professor

Actually, LDS Christians firmly believe that the Bible is the Word of God. However, LDS Christians don't believe that God's words are limited to the 66-81 books of the Bible (depending on which Bible you're using, LDS Christians use 66 KJV).

What Mormons Believe--according to a Former BYU Professor

A person could (and do regularly) argue the exact same thing about John Calvin and other Protestant traditions. But frankly, it's not any leader (Protestant, Catholic, LDS, etc) that saves us. It's Christ. If salvation is a person's primary concern, then Christ & faith & grace should be the...

What Mormons Believe--according to a Former BYU Professor

I'm always wiling to talk. I do prefer to put the most important things first in conversation (Christ, salvation, faith). Totally agreed. I get SO frustrated when topics get trapped in non-scriptural things that are of little (if any) importance. That's true of any group. Unfortunately...
