What Mormons Believe--according to a Former BYU Professor

Sorry for my delay in responding to this: I've been out of town visiting family. There's a few different subject here: First, The Father having a glorified physical body like the Son's. This is official canonized LDS Christian belief, shown in the Doctrine and Covenants. It is an official...

And yet the same old arguments exist throughout. Calvinism vs Armninism, different leadership schemes, etc.

The quote that Prayer Warrior is referencing and that subject arent in the Doctrine and Covenants. LDS Christians readily acknowledge that many many non-LDS folks are indeed disciples of Christ (Christians) and will be rejoicing with Him in the eternities (Sorry for short post, i’m on my...

That is 1) A different subject than Prayer Warrior's concern "And I'm talking about doctrines central to Mormonism, like the belief that God the Father was once as man (as human men are).". 2) Also not a subject essential to salvation. If salvation is your concern, let's talk about things...

What Mormons Believe--according to a Former BYU Professor

Two wrongs never justify a right. We ALL are sinners and need to strive to be better (empowered by Christ). No, I mean dialogue that is centered on Christ, the most important subject in the world. And preferably conducted in a manner that reflects Him. No one is asking you to agree with...

What Mormons Believe--according to a Former BYU Professor

Countless times I've seen the word "cult" used to justify downright un-Christ-like behavior done as people claim it's "in defense of Christ". I've seen this done against SDA, Protestants, Catholics, LDS, etc. I don't blame brakelite or anyone else having a great dislike for that term. It's...

What Mormons Believe--according to a Former BYU Professor

It would be more accurate to say that all Christian professing people believe God is the ultimate authority. They then differ on beliefs of the different methods this guidence from God is received and (more dramatically) the emphasis on each method.

I find context to disprove the point even further. I'm sorry if that affects you in any way negatively, but I canNOT change what I find scripture to be saying because it disagrees with you or any other man's interpretation. To do so would be in violation of Gal 1 and I"m not ok with that.

Again: Have we not already beat this dead horse enough? The passage doesn't say "the Father is a being of Spirit". I acknowledge that you have the interpretation that is does. But I read the passage and don't see that, and I cannot ethically change that.

God Himself is the source of all Truth.

If your definition of "cult" = "somebody who does not believe Sola Scriptura", then yes I (and vast majority of professing Christians) are "cultists". I passionately do not believe in Sola Sciptura.

I'm sorry, but I do not find it to be so. I'm also not see much profit in continuing to beat this dead horse.

You put your interpretation on why you think it can't be talking about God the Son.

Again: If you want to show a contraction with the Bible, then you need to provide a passage that says "God the Father is a being of Spirit". You cannot. And the John 4 passage isn't even talking about metaphysics. I'm not a Protestant. I don't believe in Sola Scirptura. But I do love and...

Dont' know. It's speculation. Going further requires that deep dive. I've now answered this same question 5 times.

Except is does not. Do you believe that God (the Son) has a body? In fact, this very quote was stated by the Son. The passage also is not talking about metaphysics, but being reverent/worshiping in spirit. LDS Christians believing the Father is like the Son is not a contradiction to the...

For the fourth time: this requires a TON of background to even touch on as a speculative subject. I don't think anyone here, including me, wants to do so. If you for some reason want to, start by going back and examining my post on the Athanasian Creed.

Yes. Scripture statement: The Father has a body of flesh and bones as tangible as man’s” (D&C 130:22). The Teachings of the Prophet Joseph Smith, quote is not.
