Apostasy and the lie of the tithe

Because the practice reverses God's priorities in giving. How is handing over the primary portion of one's giving to institutionalized religion ones primary, largest portion giving rather than meet the needs of fellow blievers and others in need. Indeed? Doesn't it become an oxymoron...

Apostasy and the lie of the tithe

Well, maybe one of my videos will help you get over your sickness of money, Strat. :) I remastered each instrument of the music myself. It's a blessing to use it to glorify the Lord. SW

Apostasy and the lie of the tithe

My question to Retrobyter remains unanswered. I asked for a scripture where wage earners were required to hand over a tithe of their wages to the Levites, and the silence remains most telling..... SW

Apostasy and the lie of the tithe

So, are you trying to say that Abraham was no better than any renegade one may see warring on the plains of his day? Are you saying that he wasn't a cut above the run-of-the-mill vagabonds of his day...that he would EVER have considered property his own that he knew was not his in the first...

Can God trust you with his money?

How does one live without money apart from sponging off others? SW That's sounds like you consider yourself seated on the Judgement Throne, in the place of Christ. That WOULD make you a liar. Perhaps you could clarify your words? SW

Apostasy and the lie of the tithe

The "Abraham's tithe" dodge is a dead horse that's been dead for so long, beaten so often by so many ignorant people claiming to be followers of Christ, that the carcass is nothing but powder blowing in the winds of indifference to TRUTH. SW

Can God trust you with his money?

Giving, as portrayed within scripture, is vastly different from most of what we see going on today. People claiming to be followers of Christ have historically handed over the primary (largest) portion of their "giving" in support of institutionalized religion's real estate and hirlings, some...

Apostasy and the lie of the tithe

Can you show me where this is true? Please show me where wage earners, according the Law, were required to hand over 10% of their wages to the Levites. Got any references what speak directly to this, much less the poor? The Law required every tenth that passed under the rod be handed over, but...

Can God trust you with his money?

You appear to have assumed that anyone here demanded that nothing be handed over to organized religion. I know I never said that. I simply stated that what is handed over to them should be a lower priority in the membership's giving. Our FIRST priority is our own families, each other's needs...

Apostasy and the lie of the tithe

Liz, that was a good post. Most folks assume that because I speak out against handing over to organized religion the primary portion of one's giving, that I espouse abandoning institutionalism altogether. Not so. I encourage people to be members of those things if they feel that they need them...

Apostasy and the lie of the tithe

I agree. Also, reading what I actually said, one would then notice that I said nothing about NOT supporting such things for those who reap benefit from such. I clearly stated what a travesty it is to hand over the primary portion of one's giving to such things, thus placing the meeting of needs...

Apostasy and the lie of the tithe

Taxation in America and tithing to religious organizations have no real parallel so far as I can see. Is there a prallel that helps make your observation relevant to this discussion? Also, are you saying that institutionalized, religious organizations are somehow representative of the Church...

Can God trust you with his money?

In all my study of the Bible, I have yet to find where we today are supposed to tithe. From where did that come? I've seen many thological tapestries woven together from disjointed and out-of-context verses, but nowhere do I see any requirement laid down upon wage-earning Israelites to hand...

Apostasy and the lie of the tithe

It's one thing to support those who go out and minister the Gospel, and quite another to hand over the primary portion of one's giving in support of dead buildings, lawn care, and all the other creature comforts and luxuries professing believers within institutionalized religion luxuriate BACK...

    Tithe...NOT a christian doctrine

The PM's from LS continue, even though I'm not reading them. They're not worth reading...speaking from experience.. Get over yourself, LS. I'm sure tithing isn't the first belief you've been wrong about. SW
  19. BeforeThereWas

    Tithe...NOT a christian doctrine

At the expense of being accused by some of mockery (which this isn't), the attitudes exhibited by LS are actually a very common malady among those who have a strong belief in something; coupled with an unreasonable level of self-assurances that they are utterly, perfectly right, and therefore...

    Tithe...NOT a christian doctrine

Oh. Perhaps we were both wrong, then. Equally, I wasn't mocking, but rather observing the fact that you avoided some key questions, which is typical of those who believe every modern believer should be tithing in accordance with illegitimagte interpretations of scripture. I am amazed at how so...
