Speaking in tongues is NOT a gift

I think there are better ways to express one's lack of ill will towards another than to intimate they are thin skinned. Do you like it when someone says you are thin skinned? It kind of puts a damper on any meaningful discussion. Maybe think about that next time you want to express your care for...

Speaking in tongues is NOT a gift

When you are done talking about me, get back to me.

Speaking in tongues is NOT a gift

Does God force us to speak in tongues when He deems it appropriate?

Speaking in tongues is NOT a gift

I might remind you once again that I have no interest in discussing myself, let alone defending myself or my beliefs. I am not the subject of the scriptures and I'd really like to confine our discussion to those scriptures. 1 Corinthians 1:1 introduces us to the subject of spiritual matters. I...

Speaking in tongues is NOT a gift

If you don't mind, let's confine our discussion to the scriptures. Let's leave each other out of the discussion. The fact is I don't know what you wish nor do you know what I wish. I won't talk about your problems and perhaps you could refrain from telling me what my problems are. Not that I...

Speaking in tongues is NOT a gift

I just put you on my ignore list. I don't want you having to answer to Jesus for any more baseless accusations against a son of God. It's bad enough already.

Speaking in tongues is NOT a gift

Well, I've said over and over everything is a gift from God, so it's not correct to say I don't want to do that. One of those gifts is holy spirit (the very essence of the new birth) which comes with the ability to operate the nine manifestations of which tongues is one. The problem with...

Speaking in tongues is NOT a gift

Did you read Corinthians before replying? 1 Cor 12:3, Wherefore I give you to understand, that no man speaking by the Spirit of God calleth Jesus accursed: and [that] no man can say that Jesus is the Lord, but by the Holy Ghost. Where did I call Jesus accursed? I trust you understand you...

Speaking in tongues is NOT a gift

Your accusation of my making a "false analogy" is somehow not petty? Wow! Talk about choking on a gnat! 1 Cor 12:7, But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to every man to profit withal.

Speaking in tongues is NOT a gift

I've said on more than one occasion that everything we have is a gift from God. That doesn't change the fact that God called tongues but one of nine manifestations (1 Cor 12:7). There are many different gifts, the manifestations being but one of them. I could give you a pocket knife and a spoon...

Speaking in tongues is NOT a gift

I think 1 Corinthians 12:7-10 clearly calls tongues a manifestation. I don't see the phrase "spiritual gifts" at all in Corinthians, at least not in the original texts. Forget about KJV's insertion of "gifts" in 1 Cor 12:1. It's simply not in the originals. 1 Cor 12:1, Now concerning spiritual...

Speaking in tongues is NOT a gift

I could be wrong, and I apologize if I am, but I sense there is something you want to tell me. Is that right?

What am I supposed to do with that? I'd suggest you read James 3 about the tongue.

Speaking in tongues is NOT a gift

Most people call tongues a gift. That leads them to believe that only some people get the so-called gift of tongues, while the vast majority don't think they have the so-called gift of tongues. I think it is highly critical since the adversary has talked untold numbers of sincere Christians out...

Speaking in tongues is NOT a gift

How tongues should be operated in the assembly: 1 Cor 14:13, Wherefore let him that speaketh in an [unknown] tongue pray that he may interpret. If this is followed: 1 Cor 14:5, I would that ye all spake with tongues, but rather that ye prophesied: for greater [is] he that prophesieth than...

Speaking in tongues is NOT a gift

Matthias came onboard much later, well after Jesus appeared to the 11 who were behind closed doors, when Thomas was missing. Matthias was appointed after Jesus ascended. Read Acts 1 for the timeline. It's good to let go of tradition when it conflicts with the actual scriptures.

Speaking in tongues is NOT a gift

Yeah, why bother? It's only God's word. He doesn't know what He's talking about anyway.

Speaking in tongues is NOT a gift

So who were the eleven when Thomas was absent? Mark 16:14, Afterward he appeared unto the eleven as they sat at meat, and upbraided them with their unbelief and hardness of heart, because they believed not them which had seen him after he was risen. John 20:24, But Thomas, one of the...
