Little Men Love to Belong to "Clubs".

No one has a monopoly on truth; but it's certainly the case that, despite anything that John 6, Ephesians 2, etc., may say, the sovereignty of God is so detested by many in the professedly evangelical and fundamentalist camps that by extension those identified with it will also be vilified.

Oh I agree that the Dutch Reformed were probably right on that issue...

Little Men Love to Belong to "Clubs".

I'm referring to a mindset, really, not to what others have said exactly... Stated differently, like the Salem Witch Trials....

Little Men Love to Belong to "Clubs".

Interesting that while the Five Points of Calvinism date historically from 1618/19 at the Synod of Dort, Calvin died in 1564.

Exactly.... The mindset: For Communists, read Calvinists...

    Church Bashing

Becoming righteous is more similar to sanctification. Then there is another aspect: "For as by one man's disobedience many were made sinners, so by the obedience of one shall many be made righteous." (Romans 5.19) I remember reading Spurgeon saying that Christ is the federal head of the elect.

Faith-based tattoo: as a result of one, did you ever talk with someone? (Poll included)

@Lambano Oh I know you are open to talk about tattoos. From what you've said, your wife certainly is, also.

Faith-based tattoo: as a result of one, did you ever talk with someone? (Poll included)

@Christ4Me Oh I agree. And I indeed agree with what you say about provoking one another to brotherly love. It's not that the symbol has some kind of magic effect; far, far from it. Instead, the truth that lies behind a witness tattoo can become a challenge to others in some circumstances...

Little Men Love to Belong to "Clubs".

Certainly, recalling Senate UnAmerican Activities Committee days, some Fundamentalists seem to go about their business with discourse such as: "Are you now, or have you ever been, a member of the Calvinist Club?"...

The Gift Of The Sabbath - Is It For Us? - NEW AND IMPROVED??

I wasn't even referring to you, @BarnyFife I've made similar comments previously. The rest day is Creational. But the Sabbath's part in the Old Economy is not central to the Gospel age; indeed, since the Resurrection is a fulfillment of the feasts of firstfruits, it's hard to go back to the Old...

That's a vintage picture of our Michael..... :)

Little Men Love to Belong to "Clubs".

What about those who would see the Five Points as Biblical, but who don't particularly use the label......

Faith-based tattoo: as a result of one, did you ever talk with someone? (Poll included)

@Lambano: Yes, for a lot of ppl, whether it's getting a bit of ink or their nostril or earlobes studded, it's something they are actively very open to do. (Having a flair for it, even.)

    Church Bashing

@Lambano It's often forgotten indeed that justification is a judicial reckoning, a forensic declaration, rather than some nebulous concept of "becoming righteous" (supposedly).....

How long did your fiery trial last?

@Mantis I do love Isaiah 48.10: "I have chosen thee in the furnace of affliction". What counts in the end is having the sure faith certainty that we are chosen, not merely to avoid trouble.

Faith-based tattoo: as a result of one, did you ever talk with someone? (Poll included)

@Christ4Me I don't think anyone should try to persuade anyone else to get a tattoo...but all the young ppl with Bible verses tattooed with whom I have spoken seem to have had them done for evangelistic reasons. My wife and I talked to a young lady with the whole of the wording of John 3.16...

The Gift Of The Sabbath - Is It For Us? - NEW AND IMPROVED??

@Christ4Me Good to remember (even though some ppl don't want to) that the law was changed. (Hebrews 7.12). Good to remember (even though some ppl don't want to) that what we now have is better than the law (Hebrews 7.19).

    Church Bashing

"Not of works" (Ephesians 2.9) is followed by "we are His workmanship" (Ephesians 2.10)...

    Is smoking a sin?

Hi @VictoryinJesus How about 2 new year's resolutions? 1) Quit if you can, but... 2) Just be matter of fact about it; don't beat yourself up if you don't quite quit yet...
