Rejecting Christ, or rejecting "Christianity"? (the church) ???

But we all use words and phrases that are not found in the bible. The phrases "missionary work," "prayer meeting," and "children's outreach" are not found in the bible, but they are not wrong. Words and phrases are only wrong if what they refer to is wrong. The word "doctrine" means "teaching."...

I have my doubts that Catholicism is Christianity

Oh dear! You do seem to have some strange beliefs. Do you belong to an unusual group that teaches these things?

I have my doubts that Catholicism is Christianity

Understood by whom? If the Word is God's reason, as you say, then you must believe that God's reason became flesh, that God's reason was God, that God's reason created all things. In John 1, we read all those things about the Word. Well, I was answering what you claimed, that Jesus Christ...

Rejecting Christ, or rejecting "Christianity"? (the church) ???

Calvin hasn't deceived me. I believed the doctrines of grace before I had heard of Calvin or Calvinism. To equate doctrines which many genuine, blood-bought Christians believe to the Mary Cult, Mormonism, and Jehovah's Witnesses is just not right.

I have my doubts that Catholicism is Christianity

The bible says that the Word, the Son of God, was with God and was God in the beginning. When He comes again, if I haven't died and gone to heaven already, I believe He will take me to be with Himself and His Father in heaven forever.

I have my doubts that Catholicism is Christianity

That is not what John wrote. He wrote that the Word (Logos) was in the beginning with God and the Word was God, not that the Word was God's thought. Later, in John 1:14, he says that the same Word became flesh. God the Father could give Him bodily life, at the incarnation. Indeed, In Hebrews...

Rejecting Christ, or rejecting "Christianity"? (the church) ???

Paul wrote that in Galatians: “O foolish Galatians! Who has bewitched you that you should not obey the truth, before whose eyes Jesus Christ was clearly portrayed among you as crucified? This only I want to learn from you: Did you receive the Spirit by the works of the law, or by the hearing of...

I have my doubts that Catholicism is Christianity

When Christ (the Word, as John calls Him in John 1) was in the beginning with God, and was God, did He have life? He must have done. Indeed John wrote in that chapter: “He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made. In Him...

I have my doubts that Catholicism is Christianity

But in view of what John has already written in Chapter 1, that cannot refer to the life Jesus has as God. In John 1 we read that the Word (Christ) was in the beginning with God and the Word was God. Don't you believe that God the Son is eternal? But that is true of both of us. Yes I...

    Scriptures that Refute Calvinism

Which verse says that in Romans 10? Verse 17 says: “So then faith [comes] by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.” (Ro 10:17 NKJV) Well, I imagined that as this is called "Christianity Board" we would be talking about Christian belief, not false religions, or believing that King Charles...

    Scriptures that Refute Calvinism

How can someone dead in trespasses and sins produce their own faith? Make a choice to believe? Besides, God's word tells Christians that they were chosen by Him: “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in...

    Scriptures that Refute Calvinism

But Paul wrote: “For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast. For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.” (Eph 2:8-10...

    Scriptures that Refute Calvinism

That is what Paul writes about in Ephesians 2 when he talks of being saved by grace, being made alive by God when we were dead in trespasses and sins. Nothing there about the Ephesian Christians choosing in their dead state to believe on the Lord Jesus Christ for salvation.

    Already Delivered

I don't think that is what the poster meant. Surely they were just saying that when a Christian does sin, they confess their sin(s) to God, not to be "re-saved," but to renew a close relationship with a holy God.

    Scriptures that Refute Calvinism

If they weren't predestined by God to do so, they would remain dead in trespasses and sins, and would not believe.

I have my doubts that Catholicism is Christianity

Well, the deity of Christ is stated clearly at the opening of John's gospel. And in Colossians we read: “For in Him (Christ) dwells all the fullness of the Godhead bodily;” (Col 2:9 NKJV) The description of the baptism of Jesus contains Father, Son and Holy Spirit: “When He had been...

    Scriptures that Refute Calvinism

Correction: I do not believe what you (Big Boy Johnson) say that Calvinism teaches. As I and other Calvinists have tried to tell you on many occasions, Calvinism does not teach all the things you say it does. But those quotes don't say that God is the Author of sin. I have already quoted...

I have my doubts that Catholicism is Christianity

Catholicism did not create the Trinity. It is there in the bible. For instance, in John's gospel we read: “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that...

    Scriptures that Refute Calvinism

I agree with you that it is very difficult to discuss things with somebody who refuses to acknowledge what calvinism teaches. You say you gave quotes from Calvin and some "scholars", but you seem to have ignored my quote from Calvin himself, which included: "It is God who created, preserves...
