All things written may be fulfilled

Ok, do you agree or disagree that it’s possible today for a believer to be zealous for the law? Zealous = 2707 /kataphrontḗs ("a zealous person") is used of "one who is deeply committed to something and therefore zealous – 'enthusiast, zealous person' "

All things written may be fulfilled

Ok, this is what I’ve been looking for. Your explanation of why the apostles were still following the Law after the cross was because they knew it might lead to the salvation of some of the Jews who continued in the Law. It wasn’t because they thought the Law itself still applied or needed to be...

All things written may be fulfilled

You’re right, Peter’s vision isn’t ultimately about eating unclean animals, but Peter says “Surely not Lord, I have never eaten anything impure or unclean”. Why would Peter say that if he already knew it was ok to eat unclean animals? Peter’s statement clearly points to him still thinking he...

Amil interpretation of 2 Peter 3:10-12 vs Genesis 9:15

Interlayered within fossil-bearing sedimentary rocks on all continents are layers of evaporite rock salt (sodium chloride), gypsum (hydrated calcium sulfate), anhydrite (calcium sulfate), and various potash and magnesium salts, which are associated with red beds (shales) containing fossilized...

All things written may be fulfilled

In Acts 10:9-16 Peter has a vision and a sheet containing unclean animals is seen. A voice tells Peter to get up, kill, and eat. Peter’s response is Surely not Lord, I have never eaten anything impure or unclean. Then the voice says Do not call anything impure that God has made clean. That...

All things written may be fulfilled

But not all the apostles fully understood that the Old was gone forever with the advent of Christ until many years after the cross, as evidenced by James. If someone were to say the law ended at the cross, that wouldn’t be the case then, right? We can only say the law became invalid at the...

All things written may be fulfilled

Ok, I agree, and I think that was the case up until 70AD when the temple got destroyed. That doesn’t necessarily prove any end time view but I would say that is what Hebrews 8:13 talking about when it says that which decayeth and waxeth old is ready to vanish away. Vanishing away happening in...

All things written may be fulfilled

Great! Acts 21 takes place in approximately 59AD. Acts 15 in approximately 48-49AD. Would it be reasonable to think that at the council at Jerusalem, in Acts 15, that at that time it was decided that circumcision was one of the burdens the Jews had that was not to be put on the Gentiles?

All things written may be fulfilled

Alright, can we agree then that it was still some kind of “mystery” to James about what Paul preached concerning circumcision?

All things written may be fulfilled

The outcome is that James suggests Paul join with some others in a Nazarite vow that includes a sacrifice (see Numbers 6:1-21). Paul agrees to it but doesn’t complete the vow because Paul is arrested. Notice the Jews have no issues with whatever James was teaching, only with what Paul was...

Ok, thanks for that informative answer.

All things written may be fulfilled

I never said there was more than one Gospel. I’ve suggested that some things were still a “mystery” to those who continued to worship in the temple at Jerusalem. How about you give your explanation of why James confronted Paul about circumcision in Acts 21.

All things written may be fulfilled

Let me help you out, if James was only a Jew outwardly the epistle he wrote probably shouldn’t have be included in the Canon. I doubt anyone’s going to make that argument. That leaves us with the issue of why James confronted Paul about teaching all the Jews which were among the Gentiles to...

All things written may be fulfilled

Let me ask you this … Do you believe James was a Jew of true faith or was he only a Jew outwardly?

All things written may be fulfilled

The council at Jerusalem decided that believing Gentiles didn’t have the same burden as believing Jews, they all agreed on that. That was what was decided, not that believing Jews were relieved of any burdens, that wasn’t discussed. We don’t have a list of exactly what burdens a believing Jew...

All things written may be fulfilled

Well you can define dual fulfillment however you want. When it comes to the OP, if someone wants to argue that Luke 21 got fulfilled in 70AD and it’s also going to be fulfilled at a future coming of Christ, then they could claim a dual fulfillment in which the same exact prophecy gets fulfilled...

All things written may be fulfilled

Acts 15 was the discussion they had, better known as the council at Jerusalem, where they made decisions on several issues. One of those issues was whether Gentiles needed to keep the same burden as the Jews. I’m not trying to say the believing Jews were actively making animal sacrifices but...

All things written may be fulfilled

Acts 15:28 For it seemed good to the Holy Ghost, and to us, to lay upon you no greater burden than these necessary things; 29 That ye abstain from meats offered to idols, and from blood, and from things strangled, and from fornication: from which if ye keep yourselves, ye shall do well. Fare ye...

All things written may be fulfilled

If it was never fulfilled according to Zechariah 13-14 and it still hasn’t been fulfilled, then it doesn’t really qualify as a dual fulfillment. A dual fulfillment is generally seen as one fulfillment of a prophecy serving as a precursor to another fulfillment of the same prophesied event. For...

All things written may be fulfilled

But the very Spirit that was poured out at Pentecost also agreed with different burdens in Acts 15:28, which occurred about 48AD to 49AD according to Biblehub. That was long after Pentecost in 30AD. Would you conclude that the Jews both fully understood that the Law of the Old Covenant and the...
