The Gift Of The Sabbath - Is It For Us? - NEW AND IMPROVED??

Agreed This is the old covenant: Exodus 19:8 KJV: And all the people answered together, and said, All that the LORD hath spoken we will do. And Moses returned the words of the people unto the LORD. Romans 7 7What shall we say then? Is the law sin? Certainly not! On the contrary, I would not...

The Gift Of The Sabbath - Is It For Us? - NEW AND IMPROVED??

I'm not talking about the Bible's use of the word "testament." I'm talking about man's use of it. And, by the way, if the two words always mean exactly the same thing, then why is the original language word translated "testament" in some places and "covenant" in others? Luther explains: "He who...

The Gift Of The Sabbath - Is It For Us? - NEW AND IMPROVED??

So you're saying that the essence of the old covenant is essential to the new? Too bad the Bible doesn't say "Man shall not live by bread alone but by every essence that proceeds out of the mouth of God."

The Gift Of The Sabbath - Is It For Us? - NEW AND IMPROVED??

There are no Testament divisions in the Bible corresponding with other covenants (Noahic, Abrahamic, etc.). The new covenant came from the Old Testament and was initially made with the old covenant people. Jesus expected Nicodemus, an old covenant theologian, lto understand new covenant theology.

You mean the two love commands plucked out of the old covenant scriptures? See post #430

The Gift Of The Sabbath - Is It For Us? - NEW AND IMPROVED??

So the law itself is not the "ministrarion of death?" Wonder what JFB has to say about 2 Corinthians 3: 7. the ministration of death—the legal dispensation, summed up in the Decalogue, which denounces death against man for transgression. A good summary (the Decalogue) of the ministration of...

The Gift Of The Sabbath - Is It For Us? - NEW AND IMPROVED??

Ecclesiastes 12:13 KJV: Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man.

Actually, they're more like Christmas to a child for me. I'm glad God commanded them. :)

Anyway, having 53 Thanksgiving days per year is very pleasing to me. I pray everyone could experience it. :)

The Gift Of The Sabbath - Is It For Us? - NEW AND IMPROVED??

Scriptures don't cancel other Scriptures. There has to be a reconciliation of the paradoxical passages. The "law was changed" only in that the physical rituals of typical sacrifices are no longer necessary now that the antitypical Sacrifice has come. This ceremonial law still remains as part of...

The Gift Of The Sabbath - Is It For Us? - NEW AND IMPROVED??

No, it would demonstrate it, not signify it. Just as the appearance of Sabbath-keeping would demonstrate that someone is making an effort to obey God's commandments. The fruit of the Spirit is the evidence given for us to know if a person is representing God.

Circumcision is not related to the issue of the perpetuity of all ten of the ten commandments.

The Gift Of The Sabbath - Is It For Us? - NEW AND IMPROVED??

No, I don't. I simply testify that God makes no difference between the 4th commandment and the other 9. I don't wish to argue about covenants. I'd prefer to leave that to my dispensationalist friends.

The Gift Of The Sabbath - Is It For Us? - NEW AND IMPROVED??

I believe in religious liberty. People are free moral agents. I also believe that God makes no difference between the 4th commandment and the other 9. God allows people to commit murder, but since that is in violation of the love thy neighbor portion of the law, they might have to answer to...

I'm surprised you don't know me better. Both passages speak of both physical and spiritual rest.

The Gift Of The Sabbath - Is It For Us? - NEW AND IMPROVED??

LOL - this reminds me of a line from the movie Twelve Angry Men: "The boy in the gray flannel suit, here, is bouncing around like a Mexican Jumping Bean!" (At least, I think that's how it goes. :)) Just search the forum for Colssians 2 and you can probably find a thousand debunkings of this...

I didn't decide anything. I just discovered that God had already decided it for me. Yeah, it really does. :)

The Gift Of The Sabbath - Is It For Us? - NEW AND IMPROVED??

Maybe it's just me, but I detect a slight shift in your tone: There is no category of "observant" believers or commandments. Believers are free to obey the 4th commandment or not. I make no demand such as "they have to obey it." I do testify that it is every bit a commandment as the other 9...
