Those that were taught by the Apostles believed they were nourishing themselves on the body and blood of Christ. This is not a salvific issue so I don't like to pursue it. Re the CC's teaching: The CC teaches that the eucharist IS the body and blood of Jesus...NOT A SYMBOL... SOME protestant...
