    Doctrinal Clarity or vagueness?

They aren't being taught the meat of the word, only the milk, long past when they should be digesting meat because it is needed in order to grow. Yes, unfortunately in addition to neglecting the harder-to-digest things, and learning righteousness, people are also being taught falsehoods...

    Doctrinal Clarity or vagueness?

If God had not imputed righteousness to us as new believers, then us children would not have been holy. It's what Jesus died for, to atone for our sins, making us holy, sanctifying us by His spirit within. This is the gospel.

    Doctrinal Clarity or vagueness?

yes, agree there is a lot of smugness in Christendom for sure, and of course that is a wrong attitude. But smugness is on the smug. It isn't in any way the fault of the gospel. If there are those who would trample the blood of Christ underfoot, it doesn't mean it is the fault of the gospel...

Imputation is based on the Old Testament

I think the foundation is what it is and doesn't need altering..it's perfect. What needs altering is what people do with it. We're not to keep going in circles around it when we are told to leave the elementary things and go on to perfection. We need to keep building higher on that wonderful...

Very Impressed Popes Speech to Curia

Not wrestling with flesh and blood, but I think we need to be wise to the subtlety of the devil - how he candy-coats his deceptions with a little bit of truth. Like baiting a trap with things that taste good. I'm sure Hitler made speeches that weren't all ugly and bad at times, but we wouldn't...

Imputation is based on the Old Testament

It's not vague to me. There are many things in the bible that appear paradoxical. Well, the truth is the truth no matter who is hearing or reading it.....it doesn't need to be altered to fit different people. But it may be hard to be understood...we need the Holy Spirit to give us the...

Imputation is based on the Old Testament

I hope nobody is imputing it on themselves. It is the Lord imputing it to us undeserving wretches and that's why it's such an indescribable gift that fills us with gratitude! As well as encourages us when we are feeling unworthy. I wonder if sometimes we can be too literal or too logical in...

Imputation is based on the Old Testament

I believe the same way the thief on the cross was saved, who had no time in this world to mature in the faith. He simply believed and acknowledged his sin and confessed Jesus. Newer believers who are on the narrow path and obeying the Lord, if any should die before coming to the full stature...

Imputation is based on the Old Testament

To my understanding it must be the righteousness of Christ that has been imputed to us.....then we follow in His footsteps to the death of our old man or outer man. And then like Jesus, we'll be raised to live in resurrection life. We follow the same path that Jesus did, though He didn't "need"...

Imputation is based on the Old Testament

It's sometimes easy to express things badly as well as to misunderstand things in writing. I was wondering at the same time what Episkopos thought the body of sin was with respect to old man or outer man. Probably didn't come out right. (My brain is having trouble getting traction these days.)

Imputation is based on the Old Testament

Now that I've been able to look into this a bit.....Romans 4 says it is the "righteousness of faith" that Abraham had imputed to him, and that we receive. And in Romans 5 it is called the "gift of righteousness", so I don't consider that this righteousness is the filthy rags of our own...

Imputation is based on the Old Testament

It was a rhetorical question actually. The verse itself says the old man has been crucified with Christ that the body of sin might be destroyed. The body of sin is our old man. Yes, rather than just dealing with individual sins/iniquities, in the manner that the Jews tried to deal with it...

Imputation is based on the Old Testament

Yes, me too, though I think of it as something that is already in us manifesting. We can leave that other thing for another time I think. Don't want to go too far off the thread topic. Bless you.

Imputation is based on the Old Testament

I don't disagree with this. Just trying to sort out the terminology regarding old/new man and outer/inner man.

Imputation is based on the Old Testament

What is the "body of sin" that has been destroyed....? I keep thinking the old man and outer man are the same thing. I've been thinking the inner man is the new man because it has been reNEWed. And that old man/false outer man covering has been defeated and conquered by Christ but we don't...

Imputation is based on the Old Testament

I think you'll find that expression in the 2 Cor 5 verse can be used to refer either to something already accomplished or to something future. Regarding the Proverbs verse sometimes we can find a little bit deeper wisdom in something written that is beyond the immediate context.

Imputation is based on the Old Testament

I'm already tiring I'm afraid, and having trouble keeping up, but I'll just say the following for now: The bible says we have been crucified with Christ already: Rom 6:6 Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not...

Imputation is based on the Old Testament

I can't speak for Luther, as I don't know what he believed or how he meant it. I'd say a dunghill resides in all our flesh, or that our flesh is a dunghill, but that is why we are not to walk after it, rather repent and walk after the spirit instead, obeying the Lord (which is a growing...

Imputation is based on the Old Testament

Goodness sister, I don't know what on earth you're ascribing to me there. Yikes. The truth of God trumps the facts that are on the ground. He is the King....what He says goes. When He ordains or decrees a thing, that is the truth. It needs to be by genuine FAITH, not by sight, and certainly...

Imputation is based on the Old Testament

I don't know much about Luther or other reformers. I understood that the reformation freed souls from the grip of the Roman institution in order to receive Christ for themselves. Which was a good thing in itself. I only had heard about Luther's horrible anti-semitism in recent years, but...
