Sometimes church leaders who understand the law itself don't have a compassion, many of them put priority of the law than the compassion because sometimes those church leaders were more often give their priority to government interest rather than stay on a grace and mercy of the Lord, as if gov made a tension to them.
Just look at these verses, whose those scribes and pharisees ?

Matthew 23:13-15
13. But woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye shut up the kingdom of heaven against men: for ye neither go in yourselves, neither suffer ye them that are entering to go in.
14. Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye devour widows' houses, and for a pretence make long prayer: therefore ye shall receive the greater damnation.
15. Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye compass sea and land to make one proselyte, and when he is made, ye make him twofold more the child of hell than yourselves.

Matthew 23:23 (BBE)
A curse is on you, scribes and Pharisees, false ones! for you make men give a tenth of all sorts of sweet-smelling plants, but you give no thought to the more important things of the law, righteousness, and mercy, and faith; but it is right for you to do these, and not to let the others be undone.

Luke 11:43-50
43. Woe to you Pharisees! You love the best seats in the synagogues and elaborate greetings in the marketplaces!
44. Woe to you! You are like unmarked graves, and people walk over them without realizing it!”
45. One of the experts in religious law answered him, “Teacher, when you say these things you insult us too.”
46. But Jesus replied, “Woe to you experts in religious law as well! You load people down with burdens difficult to bear, yet you yourselves refuse to touch the burdens with even one of your fingers!
47. Woe to you! You build the tombs of the prophets whom your ancestors killed.
48. So you testify that you approve of the deeds of your ancestors, because they killed the prophets and you build their tombs!
49. For this reason also the wisdom of God said, ‘I will send them prophets and apostles, some of whom they will kill and persecute,’
50. so that this generation may be held accountable for the blood of all the prophets that has been shed since the beginning of the world,

Circumcision is the same with Necromancy, and they absolutely broke the law itself (Deuteronomy 18:9-12).

Deuteronomy 18:9-12
9. When you enter the land the Lord your God is giving you, you must not learn the abhorrent practices of those nations.
10. There must never be found among you anyone who sacrifices his son or daughter in the fire, anyone who practices divination, an omen reader, a soothsayer, a sorcerer,
11. one who casts spells, one who conjures up spirits, a practitioner of the occult, or a necromancer.
12. Whoever does these things is abhorrent to the Lord and because of these detestable things the Lord your God is about to drive them out from before you.

Did God told us to test the spirit using Necromancy (1 John 4:1-3) ?
Nope, God told to test the spirit using the compassion and their teaching (1 Timothy 4:10-16).
Necromancy was used by those hellenistic rituals to be included as a tools to test the spirit but by doing so they violate the law itself as what they did is defiled the body of the person.

There is a "great apostasy", currently.

Yes, and it has to do with the concepts purported by @Behold and @Blood Bought 1953, and perhaps a few others, that,

1) you do not have to continue to have faith to be saved, and that therefore there are no eternal consequences for falling away; and,

2) that a person can be a worker / doer of iniquity and they will not be cast into the furnace of everlasting fire. Because "repentance is not necessary for salvation" in their view.

As concerning 1), scriptures to look at are Luke 8:12-13 and Romans 11:20-22.

As concerning 2), scriptures to look at are Matthew 13:41-42, Matthew 7:23, Matthew 25:41.

You should pray regarding the fact that your response is now to agree with me, when you just posted that if a believer has these thoughts, they are not saved etc.

Only if they are their own thoughts.

Psa 10:4, The wicked, through the pride of his countenance, will not seek after God: God is not in all his thoughts.
