1Jo 2:2He is the sacrifice for our sins. He takes away not only our sins but the sins of all the world.

What do you think this verse means? Is it a mistranslation?

It is important to have some tools when studying Scripture. What kind of Bible study tools do you have?

1Jn 2:1 My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not. And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous:
1Jn 2:2 And he is the propitiation (G2434) for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world.

Only here and 1Jo_4:10. From ἱλάσκομαι to appease, to conciliate to one's self, which occurs Luk_18:13; Heb_2:17.

God told me to tell you this....

I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish.

The Lord is God.

amen

I have several that I use, I have the Septuagint, theological Greek lexicon, Analyical Hebrew/Chaldee lexicon, Brown Driver Briggs lexicon, and Thayer's lexicon, Vincent's word study, Wuest's word study, Wilford Funk's word study, New International Dictionary of new testament theology, and McClintock's and Strong's Cyclopedia of Biblical, Theological and Ecclesiastical Literature.

God and I are on excellent speaking terms. He doesn't go through you to tell me anything, He will tell me directly.

Did God tell you that He did not tell me anything...Yes or no?

Be careful

I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish.

Jesus said this to me.

I am telling you

that Jesus said this to me.

And I told myself to tell you that....

I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish.

O generation of vipers, how can ye, being evil, speak good things? for out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh.

Ye serpents, ye generation of vipers, how can ye escape the damnation of hell?

Jesus said this also.

And who was He talking to at the time.

I was not sent to debate you or make you believe anything.

actually I am glad you are the way you are.

If God told you that He did not tell me to tell you what I told you.

Then that would make me a liar. If He really did tell me to tell you what I told you...and He did not tell you...Then that would make you...in trouble.

so I can absolutely say...

You are in trouble or I am a liar.

I know that God will do the right thing.

I wager all I am on it.

I stand with what I said originally. No need responding because you are on my ignore list and I will not see your posts. Now to get back to the OP.

I guess so... Seems like the translators interpreted again. There's a different role between the sacrifices of the OT and the mercy seat (kphrth, the Hebrew equivalent of G2434). See Hebrews 9:5, where hilasterions' root, hilasmos can be found. Strong's aids in this error by leaving off accurate translation principles and preferring interpretation. O, the wisdom of the wise.

I'm thankful He didn't just "atone" for our sins, but justified us and acquitted us and glorified us in His Son. What a deal!! PTL

Are you a tall person, or a short person? just wondering...
