2.And can we obtain our own righteousness as in Self made righteousness ?

The answers are:
1.Self righteousness means that we believe in our carnal self, without God's Word and Spirit in our life, we can have the knowledge to be good enough to please God and that we have no sin in us.
And that all of our talents, thoughts, accomplishments, status in life originated from US, our own intellect, our own greatness, our own feats as if we don't need God.

I realize that we, as Christians, are supposed to be reborn and are BEING made the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus but "THERE" is the condition... we must be filled & covered in the Water of the Word being washed daily from the inside out in this CLAY FRAGILE vessel, to rid our unclean carnal thinking that we learned on our own from other ungodly teachings... till we come firm and built up on the Word of Truth to the FULL MEASURE of Christ.

2.No, we can not obtain our own self righteousness for again we are of a fallen nature in this carnal body of the first Adam, laying low in the dust of the earth, having unclean spirits that cause us to desire to sin. God knows that without His Word/Son and His Spirit the helper, we CAN NOT be made righteous let alone holy in the eyes of God. Righteous does not me we have been perfected.. it means that we are a work in progress WHEN we keep pressing on to know the Word to obtain to be in the image of Christ, who is the image of the invisible God. We can not BE God, but we are to be in the image of God's attributes if we claim to be a child of God.

1 John 3:1-13
3:1 Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons

of God: therefore the world knoweth us not, because it knew him not.
2 Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know

that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is.
3 And every man that hath this hope in him purifieth himself, even as he is pure.
4 Whosoever committeth sin transgresseth also the law: for sin is the transgression of the law.
5 And ye know that he was manifested to take away our sins; and in him is no sin.
6 Whosoever abideth in him sinneth not: whosoever sinneth hath not seen him, neither known him.
7 Little children, let no man deceive you: he that doeth righteousness is righteous, even as he is righteous.
8 He that committeth sin is of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose the

Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil.
9 Whosoever is born of God doth not commit sin; for his seed remaineth in him: and he cannot sin, because he is born of God.

10 In this the children of God are manifest, and the children of the devil: whosoever doeth not righteousness is not of God, neither he that loveth not his brother.
11 For this is the message that ye heard from the beginning, that we should love one another.
12 Not as Cain, who was of that wicked one, and slew his brother. And wherefore slew he him? Because his own works were evil, and his brother's righteous.
13 Marvel not, my brethren, if the world hate you.
KJV

God in His Sovereignty may call us righteous when we look to Him for everything pertaining to life, and that is good and that is called Faith.. but God does require us to learn to walk up right in the Spirit as His child that obeys His Voice/Word/Son to raise us up to life, and out of the dust of the earth where it is dry and parched and we are always in hot water, for there is no cool Living water to drink from to save us from our evil selves.

self righteous means being right at other people expense. it means serving our ego rather than others. the truth will previal without us using it to grind people down. the pharisees were self righteous because they used the truth to separate themselves from others.

No, the Pharisees considered themselves to be self righteous thinking that the Word of God was for others and NOT themselves as well. They thought just because the KNEW God's Word they themselves were higher, exalting them own selves above others yet in God's eyes they were worse off because they knew what to do but deceived them own selves by just expecting others to be a doer of the Word and not being held accountable themselves! They thought to APPEAR good on the outside is all that was necessary and paid no attention to their inward parts where GOD SEES THE DEEDS AND MOTIVES OF MEN'S HEARTS.

Matt 23:25-33
25 Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye make clean the outside of the cup and of the platter, but within they are full of extortion and excess.
26 Thou blind Pharisee, cleanse first that which is within the cup and platter, that the outside of them may be clean also.
27 Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye are like unto whited sepulchres, which indeed appear beautiful outward, but are within full of dead men's bones, and of all uncleanness.
28 Even so ye also outwardly appear righteous unto men, but within ye are full of hypocrisy and iniquity.
29 Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! because ye build the tombs of the prophets, and garnish the sepulchres of the righteous,
30 And say, If we had been in the days of our fathers, we would not have been partakers with them in the blood of the prophets.
31 Wherefore ye be witnesses unto yourselves, that ye are the children of them which killed the prophets.
32 Fill ye up then the measure of your fathers.
33 Ye serpents, ye generation of vipers, how can ye escape the damnation of hell?

I have always understood that to be "self righteous" is to think we are a better Christian than someone else ...
We are all in a period of being formed into the image of Christ, but not all shall make it "Hence the virgins saying Lord Lord" there are baby Christian's that can only receive(handle small truths) milk of the Word and then there are grown sons who can chew the meat of the Word/body of Christ/Bread of life, so we can not judge that. But we must keep exalting Christ up in the eyes of all who will listen so that they to can hear the Word of life for themselves and be transformed by the renewing of their minds from the worlds lost way of thinking to God's eternal life way of UNDERSTANDING. We each grow at a different rate spiritually.
When I was without God I thought I was a good person... but I was deceived. I was SELF righteous because I thought I was righteous, not because I fit the measure which for true righteousness is the measure of a full man in Christ, in the Word of Truth upright on two legs like our Father not on all fours as those of this dog eat dog world has allowed themselves to become in their image of the beast nature.

To me self righteousness is a work of the heart that one believes they have attained, apart from God. :) Galatians 3:2-4, 5-7

In my house
Self-righteous has to do with pride. Like the Pharisees who had a lot of pride. Even when they were shown that they were wrong, they would not admit that they were wrong. They are the ones who tried to tear Jesus' down rather than hear His truth.

jesus rightly called the pharisees hypocrites because they did not recognize that they were sinners just like everyone else AND they used the law to judge others without consideration for their own sins

Righteousness has to do with the law. Something that no-one is able to attain outside of Christs work on the cross... :) Righteousness is by faith whereas self righteousness is by works.

There is nothing wrong with claiming to be saved, or to word it more accurately, claiming to be in Christ. If Paul can do it, then it is not wrong to do it. What is an offense to the gift of righteousness is when one claims this status by way of his own behavior (self righteousness) rather than by way of the free gift that is offered through the righteousness of One Man, Jesus, and His sacrifice for sin. If anyone has any objection to the exaltation of the finished work of the cross or the receiving of life through faith in Jesus, then this person has objected to God's plan for salvation.

We receive the Spirit through faith, and He is given as a guarantee of our inheritance. This is not man's plan, but God's. If one is in Christ and is filled with the Spirit, then why would anyone object to the testimony of such. By calling such testimony a claim, I think there is an element of judgmental ism involved. After all, if righteousness is not, nor can be, of self, but rather imputed through faith, then why would a claim of having been given the gift of righteousness be considered an expression of self righteousness?

Hi to all...

Self-righteous, just like the expression says, is being righteous from our selves... of our own capability... is the kind of righteous that we ourselves produce.
Any kind of righteous that comes from our selves or its sustained by ourselves can be called "self-righteous"...

The kind of righteous that is not self-righteous is the one that comes from GOD by HIS grace... it's the kind the HE makes in me and remains by HIS will...

Has an example...
...if I claim that I can loose salvation that shows I'm relying in self-righteous and not HIS grace... or that I don't trust HIM.
Because if my righteous is the one HE makes in me how can I loose it???

Unless HIS righteous in me depends of my previous righteous ... which would be again SELF-RIGHTEOUS... because, if his depends on mine then I have no big advantage, and this new alliance is not much better than the law because it still depends of my own virtues (which are not much).

Or unless do not trust HIS fidelity... which is named unbelieving, or not having faith.

Anyone who looks to judge righteous by works, him self or others, is judging by "self-righteous".... and consequently will not distinguish good from evil.

I think many Christians package their self righteousness up in God vocabulary. Unfortunately, every word they say is arrogant and condescending and is only shared to annihilate the people they are talking to. Just because your indignation contains God references in it or attempts to give the glory of your exaltation up to God, does not mean that you are fooling anyone. It is still all about you. Hiding behind Paul's 'boast in the Lord' comment is not going to save you. He was being sarcastic, people!
