It is a phenomenon that cannot be explained.

Folks that claim to be Christians refuse the original new birth via Acts 2:38.

I am amazed at the power of the enemy over them, doing everything they can to dismiss this command by Peter.

It does not matter if one is trinity or unitarian, as they run from the first command by Peter to sinners on how to be saved....

37 Now when they heard this, they were pricked in their heart, and said unto Peter and to the rest of the apostles, Men and brethren, what shall we do?

38 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.

....as Christians say..."sorry Peter, I'll pass....".

Is your point that one must be water baptized for the remission of sins and receiving the Holy Spirit?

It is interesting how the church moved away from the way Peter presented the message of the gospel.

The issue of "refusing" the New Birth does not really arise in the matter of salvation. All those who repent and believe on the Lord Jesus Christ receive the gift of the Holy Spirit, and it is the Holy Spirit who supernaturally regenerates the one who believes. Those who are born again submit themselves to water baptism by immersion (as practiced by the apostolic churches). In the Bible there was little or no separation between the two.

Acts chapter 2 is a critical chapter in Scripture since it describes the day of Pentecost and the results of the outpouring of the Holy Spirit and the harvest of souls. It also show how a true New Testament church was to function.

However too many have automatically assumed that water baptism is necessary to receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. Others have automatically assumed that those who received the Spirit all began to speak in tongues. But neither of these beliefs is correct. And to see that one needs to study the rest of Acts as well as the entire New Testsament. Baptismal regeneration is FALSE DOCTRINE.

Turn around and away from your old self and his evil ways.
    be immersed, covered, complete filled...
When a person is in the name completely isn't it that he has the mind of Christ? Do all of us have the mind of Christ all of the time? If we did, we certainly wouldn't sin at all, would we?

I believe that a person can be in the name without saying the name or even without knowing the name in his carnal mind. What about the OT prophets and men of God like David? Were they IN the name? What about Isaiah when he wrote prophecies about the comin Messiah but did not know the name, Jesus as per the NT?

Sins remitted: set aside or cancelled

If the sins are all gone, why do we need the gift?
"But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth." Acts 1:8

Power to be witnesses and power to sin no more. This is why it is critical that we do not quench the Holy Spirit in us. When we quench the Spirit we are leading ourselves in our fleshly ways and habits again. We are sinning again. Foolishness is not a new thing for men, is it?

God's word is clear. But there will always be teachings that say, no, that's not actually what is meant.

How do they say they believe God's word then?

Acts 2:38 Peter replied, “Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.

Yes, which means the church that moved away is no longer the church.

You are a classic example of the OP.

You too have skipped Acts 2:38.

    Thou art the man.

The spoken name of Jesus Christ while being immersed in water is the remitter of sins.

The Holy Ghost takes over from there to assist us to heaven.

It is no more true that he is a true jew who has been physically circumcised than it is that he is a born again man who has been splashed with physical water.

That's all I have to say. Wont be back.

Is that a church movement thing, or just some members professing baptism is not necessary on this board?

The members are part of a church movement thing that has risen up in outward rebellion against Peter(and Jesus Christ).

4 Then said Paul, John verily baptized with the baptism of repentance, saying unto the people, that they should believe on him which should come after him, that is, on Christ Jesus.

5 When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.

6 And when Paul had laid his hands upon them, the Holy Ghost came on them; and they spake with tongues, and prophesied.

7 And all the men were about twelve.

Paul and Peter preached the same message.

They are methodically trained to attempt to debunk it.

They close their minds and hearts to it.

They cannot even tell us exactly when the church began after getting a PHD.

What a worthless, phony piece of paper.

Thank God they are not neuro surgeons.

I said I would not be back, and this will not help to build up anyone's trust, so it's useless, but I'm pretty sure if you are immersed in water, some of it splashes on the outside of your cup!
