Does anyone agree with or disagree with the YouTube video on "Ask anything in my name?"
Forming the words, "in my name" with our mouths and speaking them does NOT automatically in all cases put us IN His Name.

Yes, indeed, no other name and in the name...:

"Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved." Acts 4:12

"And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him." Col 3:17
http://biblia.com/bible/esv/Col 3.17
"For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them." Matt 18:20
http://biblia.com/bible/esv/Matt 18.20
Being "in the name" is much more than simply saying "in the name of Jesus" when we are praying. People say that there is power in the name and there is but the key is to be "IN" the name. At a neighborhood bar room people may regularly say the word, "Jesus" with their mouths but never are "IN" the name.

When a person is in the name completely? Isn't it that when he has the mind of Christ? Do all of us have the mind of Christ all of the time? If we did, we certainly wouldn't sin at all, would we?

I believe that a person can be in the name without saying the name or even without knowing the name in his carnal mind. A number of people in the OT [at least, in a measure], I believe were in the name before any prophet knew what that name was in order to be able to speak it with his mouth.

Wasn't Elijah in the name when he was confronting the 400 prophets of Baal?

Wasn't David 'a man after God's own heart' and the 'apple of God's eye', also in the name or in His name, when God was inspiring him to write many of the psalms attributed to him in the Bible?

Neither Elijah nor David knew that the name of the savior was to be "Jesus" or "Yeshua" or any other spoken name, which man has applied to the Savior in the flesh, unless it was Immanuel.

Yet, were not both of them, and others, in the name or in His name long before the time of John the Baptist?

The following verse gives us more about this, does it not?

"For when the Gentiles, which have not the law, do by nature the things contained in the law, these, having not the law, are a law unto themselves:

Which show the work of the law written in their hearts, their conscience also bearing witness, and their thoughts the mean while accusing or else excusing one another)" Rom 2:14-15
http://biblia.com/bible/esv/Rom 2.14-15
Were those not also in some measure "in the name" when they did the right things without having heard the spoken word, "Jesus"?

Forgive me if I misunderstood your response, but I can't tell if you agree with him or not.

Yes, I agree.

A similar situation exists here:

John 20:22-23 KJV
22) And when he had said this, he breathed on them, and saith unto them, Receive ye the Holy Ghost:
23) Whose soever sins ye remit, they are remitted unto them; and whose soever sins ye retain, they are retained.

Much love!

Hello, and welcome here twallacejolly,
I agree that Jesus was specifically speaking to those He sent forth to START the spread of the gospel.
What if two opposing teams are praying IN HIS NAME, believing that verse means them, how does God respond to something like that? All Christians pray in His Name (at least they sure should be) but NOT all prayer is answered...and since I believe all scripture is God Breathed, and if this were meant for all Christians...wouldn't we see less "no" answers by God?
Good question to pose, surprised not more reply's.

Folks forget the part where JOHN reminds us , If we pray ACCORDING TO HIS WILL he hears us .
Fuzzball and sports aint according to his will . As you well know my dear sister . But you did make a good point .
The scary thing is GOD will send a decieving spirit to decieve and HE will allow a person to be decieved by the idols of their hearts .
AND when a prophet is decieved , I HAVE DECIEVED THAT PROPHET . GOD allows that too .
SO my advice is , WE all learn the JESUS of said bible . Now put those hands up and let the LORD be praised .

IF we are praying in HIS name would we be praying as HE taught us and not for things He told us not too .
We have lots of kennys and bennys who prayed for much money , THE SCARY THING IS THEY GOT IT
yet have NO IDEA they have been decieved by the idols of their own hearts . THEY actually THINK GOD is with them .
WHEN IN TRUTH they are not WITH HIM and HE is not with THEM .
Think it cant happen . THEN i suggest we learn the GOD of the bible and the CHRIST of the bible .
Just something to really ponder on my friends . Are we following THAT GOD , THAT CHRIST
OR , OR are we following the flesh and being decieved .

Its all about What is according to HIS WILL .
an example . IF two or three of us were gathered together but we prayed LORD LET EVERYONE BE SAVED
WHILE It is the desire of GOD that all would be saved , GOD HIMSELF has already chosen HOW they can be saved .
So that prayer wont be answered . Cause GOD has already chosen to save the world by the preaching of CHRIST of the gospel
and that all who do believe would be saved and those who reject will be damned .
Many folks can come together and pray , YET if its not according to the will of GOD it wont be answered .
I Do believe in the power of prayer . But we need to LEARN JESUS WELL and our prayers ought to be NOT SELF CENTERED
But rather Christ centered and for the sakes of others above even ourselves .
When we pray for wisdom , IT ought to be so as we can simply learn to follow the LORD better and do HIS will
NOT so we can look wise and have the desire to Lord over folks and seem wise and have worship of men .
I tell us all that most folks pray for all the wrong reasons , FOR ME ME ME and HOW they can LOOK or BE seen .
When in truth i say PRAY for wisdom , for knowledge , for understanding , for the increase of the SPIRIT
SO as we can learn to walk humbly with our GOD and that HE ALONE gets all the recognition . SEEK not our own recognition .
MANY do for all the wrong reasons. Folks pray to be rich , But the love of money and those who desire to be rich
WHAT DOES the bible say , THEY have peirced themsevles through with many sorrows .
WE really need to learn our bibles . THE GIFTS have not ceased , nor has the TRUTH of JESUS EVERY WORD
but HOW we pray and WHY we pray ALSO MATTERS . Many pray so as they can consume it upon their own lusts .
I say we learn CHRIST , Let the mind of CHRIST rule and reign in us . AND IF THE KING did not come to be served
BUT RATHER TO SERVE , THAN I SAY WE FOLLOW THAT PATTERN .

In the context given by the speaker there...yes.....it was an audience of eleven to whom Jesus said this. So was this Jesus saying that his apostles could perform any kind of miracle as long as it was done in his name? Were other disciples so empowered? If so what did Jesus mean?

Another scripture clarifies this I believe.....prophetically, Jesus said of the judgment time....
Matthew 7:21-23...
“Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter into the kingdom of heaven—only the one who does the will of my Father in heaven. 22 On that day, many will say to me, ‘Lord, Lord, didn’t we prophesy in your name, and cast out demons in your name, and do many powerful deeds in your name?’ 23 Then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you. Go away from me, you lawbreakers!’"

Apparently those who were prophesying, casting out demons and performing powerful deeds "in Jesus' name" were not doing so with God's sanction....and if these things were indeed happening, then it was not with God's power.

Jesus' words..."I never knew you" convey a rejection that went way back, because "never" means "not ever". So those who promote so called miracles done in Jesus' name are those he said were "lawbreakers"......but whose laws were they breaking?
