No where in scripture do we find the thief was baptized.

Water baptism is not a requirement to receive the Gift of Salvation = "not of works lest any man should boast"

Water baptism is a outward symbolic act, done in faith according to the Word.

ALL that was Required for the thief to be SAVED was Right next to him.
Amen! Certain people may try to argue that the thief may have been converted, was water baptized, yet the fruit of that is being crucified as a thief? - (highly unlikely)

In Matthew 27:39-44, we see that those who passed by, along with the chief priests scribes and elders blasphemed, mocked and shook their heads at Jesus and EVEN THE ROBBERS WHO WERE CRUCIFIED WITH HIM REVILED HIM WITH THE SAME THING. More fruit? I certainly don't see being crucified as a thief, blaspheming, mocking and shaking your head at Jesus as being the fruit of repentance/faith.

Yet, moments later, we see that the thief had a "change of mind" (repentance) placed his faith in Christ for salvation and was saved (Luke 23:40-43). Of course, he died before having the opportunity to be water baptized.

As I was lying in bed trying to go to sleep my mind kept running through scripture do I decided to get up and share it here before I forgot what was being given me.

Is Romans chapter 6 about the water spiritual baptism in the name of the Lord or a Dry spiritual baptism where the signs are given some call the baptism of the holy ghost. I have been going over this in my head a lot and searching scripture for the truth on the subject.

Where is where I am at in this study.

John 1:25-33
25 And they asked him, and said unto him, Why baptizest thou then, if thou be not that Christ, nor Elias, neither that prophet?
26 John answered them, saying, I baptize with water: but there standeth one among you, whom ye know not;
27 He it is, who coming after me is preferred before me, whose shoe's latchet I am not worthy to unloose.
28 These things were done in Bethabara beyond Jordan, where John was baptizing.
29 The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world.
30 This is he of whom I said, After me cometh a man which is preferred before me: for he was before me.
31 And I knew him not: but that he should be made manifest to Israel, therefore am I come baptizing with water.
32 And John bare record, saying, I saw the Spirit descending from heaven like a dove, and it abode upon him.
33 And I knew him not: but he that sent me to baptize with water, the same said unto me, Upon whom thou shalt see the Spirit descending, and remaining on him, the same is he which baptizeth with the Holy Ghost.
Remember that John was preaching repent and be baptized for the remission of sin
Mark 1: 1-4
1 The beginning of the gospel of Jesus Christ, the Son of God;
2 As it is written in the prophets, Behold, I send my messenger before thy face, which shall prepare thy way before thee.
3 The voice of one crying in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the Lord, make his paths straight.
4 John did baptize in the wilderness, and preach the baptism of repentance for the remission of sins.

John was leading the way to the baptism that Jesus was going to baptize It it not the spirit baptism that Jesus was going to baptize with because it could not give the spirit only Jesus could do that
John 7:37-39
37 In the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried, saying, If any man thirst, let him come unto me, and drink.
38 He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water.
39 (But this spake he of the Spirit, which they that believe on him should receive: for the Holy Ghost was not yet given; because that Jesus was not yet glorified.)
See Jesus is talking about giving the indwelling Spirit. The baptism that Jesus is going to baptize with is the one that gives the indwelling spirit.
Now we await his mission to be complete that God the Father has given him to do.In Acts 2 we read that Peter has opened the doors to the kingdom that was to come and He preaches the now complete gospel because not Christ has completed the mission of the cross that his Father assigned for him to carry out. It is spelled out in Acts chapter 2 Peter preaches Christ and him crucified His death burial and resurrection. Then those present believe the gospel preached to the and ask Peter what they must do . Peter answers them Acts 2:38-41
38 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.
39 For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call.
40 And with many other words did he testify and exhort, saying, Save yourselves from this untoward generation.
41 Then they that gladly received his word were baptized: and the same day there were added unto them about three thousand souls.

We see the same gospel preached in Acts 8:29-39
29 Then the Spirit said unto Philip, Go near, and join thyself to this chariot.
30 And Philip ran thither to him, and heard him read the prophet Esaias, and said, Understandest thou what thou readest?
31 And he said, How can I, except some man should guide me? And he desired Philip that he would come up and sit with him.
32 The place of the scripture which he read was this, He was led as a sheep to the slaughter; and like a lamb dumb before his shearer, so opened he not his mouth:
33 In his humiliation his judgment was taken away: and who shall declare his generation? for his life is taken from the earth.
34 And the eunuch answered Philip, and said, I pray thee, of whom speaketh the prophet this? of himself, or of some other man?
35 Then Philip opened his mouth, and began at the same scripture, and preached unto him Jesus.
36 And as they went on their way, they came unto a certain water: and the eunuch said, See, here is water; what doth hinder me to be baptized?
37 And Philip said, If thou believest with all thine heart, thou mayest. And he answered and said, I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God.
38 And he commanded the chariot to stand still: and they went down both into the water, both Philip and the eunuch; and he baptized him.
39 And when they were come up out of the water, the Spirit of the Lord caught away Philip, that the eunuch saw him no more: and he went on his way rejoicing.
Side note here : notice it was the same gospel preached in both Acts 2 and 8 with the same results
Also note it follows the teaching in Romans 10:13-16
13 For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.
14 How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher?
15 And how shall they preach, except they be sent? as it is written, How beautiful are the feet of them that preach the gospel of peace, and bring glad tidings of good things!
16 But they have not all obeyed the gospel. For Esaias saith, Lord, who hath believed our report?
The spirit sent the preacher Philip to the eunuch to preach the gospel of Christ which must have included the baptism in the name of Jesus Christ just as it did in Acts 2

Now some say that the baptism in Romans 6 is a dry baptism in the holy ghost it is not the water baptism in the name of Jesus Christ but I think if we let scripture define which one it is we can see it is the water baptism in Christ name.

Romans 6:3 Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death?
here we see it is where we were baptized into Christ (in the name of Christ Acts 2:38) it is where we join Christ at the cross and share in his death burial and resurrection and are washed in his soil cleansing blood of the lamb just as verse 3 says.

Paul goes into great detail to teach you what happens in the baptism in the name of Jesus Christ in verses 4-18
4 Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.
5 For if we have been planted together in the likeness of his death, we shall be also in the likeness of his resurrection:
6 Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin.
7 For he that is dead is freed from sin.
8 Now if we be dead with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with him:
9 Knowing that Christ being raised from the dead dieth no more; death hath no more dominion over him.
10 For in that he died, he died unto sin once: but in that he liveth, he liveth unto God.
11 Likewise reckon ye also yourselves to be dead indeed unto sin, but alive unto God through Jesus Christ our Lord.
12 Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, that ye should obey it in the lusts thereof.
13 Neither yield ye your members as instruments of unrighteousness unto sin: but yield yourselves unto God, as those that are alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness unto God.
14 For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace.
15 What then? shall we sin, because we are not under the law, but under grace? God forbid.
16 Know ye not, that to whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants ye are to whom ye obey; whether of sin unto death, or of obedience unto righteousness?
17 But God be thanked, that ye were the servants of sin, but ye have obeyed from the heart that form of doctrine which was delivered you.
18 Being then made free from sin, ye became the servants of righteousness.

When we are baptized into Christ (in his name the spirit baptism that he was to baptize with )we join him in his death. God works his spiritual transformation of taking us dead in our sins to alive in Christ just as Paul tries to get us to see.

Now how do I know it is the water baptism in Christ's name? Paul tells you that in verse 16,17 and 18 above go back and read it again.

Now I hope we agree we are not commanded to be baptized in what some call the dry holy spirit baptism that one in some views just comes upon one but we are told to be baptized in the name of Christ for the remission of sin and to receive the indwelling spirit and that is just what Paul's said happens when we are baptized into Christ therefore Romans 6 is talking about Acts 2:38 I can not see it any other way when you check the facts.

Sorry to bother you just wanted to get this thought written down before I forgot. Hope it makes sense to someone.
