I was thinking about this today.......there are certain people out there that get really uncomfortable when gay men act flamboyant. A common response from gay men is 'Im just acting like myself'. Well, since the psychological evidence seems to point to the idea that some gay men pattern their mannerism (subconsciouly) after the adult females in their lives, it appears to be a true statement.

So if this were true that flamboyant gay men are just being themselves - what about flamboyant rednecks? Flamboyant FundamentalistS? See here is the problem - conservatives often link newly acceptable flamboyance as acceptance of moral depravity - yet they also feel persecuted, themselves.

Seems to me that we all need to live and let live because whether you are gay or straight, too white or too black, or too conservative or too liberal; we are all just trying to live authentically. Maybe we need to remember Paul when he reminds us there are no divisions

Agreed. Flamboyant behavior isn't immoral. I've been living in Houston's "gay district" for about 4 years now, and I've made gay friends that owned tire shops and gay friends that danced with scarfs while singing. Homosexual action is not flamboyant behavior and homosexual orientation is not displayed necessarily by flamboyance. It is homosexual action that is the sin, not flamboyance.

Yes, i agree the behavior is less than perfect and therefore sinful. I am just pointing out that acting like a redneck would be considered flamboyant in the Castro, simply because it would stick out. Yet, it is accepted by the majority of America - idealized by many so it is not considered flamboyant. Conservatives have said to me "yeah, but i do not want to know he is sleeping with a man because of his mannerisms" Yet the same inaccuracies could be pointed out in the mannerism of a flamboyant redneck, "I dont want to know he is a closeminded racist because of his mannerisms"

All people play roles based on their experience and all are struggling to live authentically inspite of it

Though some people are uncomfortable with more flamboyant gay people, what really angers people are those who are deliberately rubbing their faces in it. There's a difference that can be distinguished. I have no problem with people being eccentric and in fact I think it makes life more interesting. But those gay people who are trying to offend conservative Christians by excessive flamboyant display are f****ts in my opinion.

hmm...i am way more bothered by other groups 'rubbing my face' in their lifestyle - rednecks, street preachers, etc. because i see violence back up their opinions, which i do not see from homosexuals

Maybe you need to see a doctor if you think redneck and street preachers are prone to use violence to back up their opinion. Perhaps some medication may be necessary to quell the voices in your head.

Rednecks honestly annoy me most. I'm Houston, and I know so many suburban kids that have never done anything remotely "country", yet have "redneck pride". In reality, they're wearing a costume.

I have no problem seeing how you miss the hostile nature of street preachers and rednecks based on your hostile response. One of the differences between flamboyant gay people and street preachers is that gay people understand that most people are not gay and are not trying to convert people to their lifestyle or point of view. All they want is people to accept them for who they are. If you have ever tried talking to a street preacher and attempted to disagree with the smallest point they are shoving down the publics throat, you would know the hostility behind their words. They are all over utube if you need a review.

cj - a rn is characterized as someone who is uneducated, has strong opinions, a black and white thinker, believes everyone who does not share his pov is immoral or cowardly, bigotted, uses his opinion as the etandard for 'common sense', and considers himself to belong to a cowboy or southern group.

So you are clueless as to the genesis of the term and acting solely on your own bigoted bias which is exactly what you accuse them of??

Flamboyancy by the law might be sinful.... Nothing to do with being Gay. But it seems to me God can be pretty flamboyant himself. He tends to show off. I mean, a rainbow is pretty flamboyant! He also gave priest a vest with stones that lit up "magically". Joseph wore a coat of many colors and he had a great blessing (with mixed results).

If you want to talk "flamboyant" let me remind you of James chapter 2. Folks wearing gay clothing.... According to the dreaded KVJ. The sin wasn't the wearing of them, it was the homage given to them. God ain't impressed with our flamboyancy. He spoke well of Solomon's flamboyancy but said it wasn't "jack" compared to the lilly's of the field, which wither away. And, he's right.

There are other scripures to consider... But if flamboyancy is a sin (and to a degree it is) it's covered by grace. Being humble is more important when you are humble to his Word than to society. That means honoring your preacher as the pillar of men (not because of who he is, but because he is chosen to preach the gospel). It means making your beliefs line up with the Bible instead of cherry picking verses to make the Bible support your points. It means going to Church instead of of doing what your flesh wants to do at the moment. And much more...

All in all, be flamboyant in the world if that's what you want to do... Doesn't suit me personally, but ok. But be humble to God... Let him be flamboyant! He can do it better!

Sexually active homosexuality remains an abomination to God. Flamboyant behavior is something that would be subjective I think. I believe homosexual and flamboyant behavior are not necessarily interrelated.

Aspen,

I just find it odd that a person would come preaching love as you do while being bigoted against a large group of people. You should never judge a way of life by its abuses.

Rednecks were born during the coal field wars in early twentieth century West Virginia. The miners tired of company script and company thugs and promises that were never kept. The state government was bought and paid for of course and gave no assistance. Safety was at an all time low.

The miners armed themselves and began to march on Charleston while donning red bandannas (rednecks) the national guard and the army was called in while bombs were dropped on American citizens at the battle of Blair Mountain. When the miners, who were very patriotic realized they were fighting the US army they laid down their weapons.

Rednecks are just men and women who love their country, their family and God. Most would give you the shirt off their back regardless of whether you are gay or straight. It's not a crime to expect men to be men and women to be women........yet!

Shame on you.

Pretty much, yeah.

Flamboyant behavior is a transgression against the Biblical injunction against men dressing as women. The "metrosexual" trend, whether by gay or straight men, is an ancient act of perversion not permitted by a holy God. They dress as women, act as women, walk as women, and engage in eccentric hysterics as they imagine a woman would. It's sick and depraved is what it is.

And yet it is one of the sins that Jesus died to forgive, in taking God's wrath for sin upon Himself. It is no sicker or more depraved than most of the sins that we were forgiven for. But...all this time I thought flambouyant meant able to catch fire while floating :D .
