“One of the most indicting questions Jesus asked was, ‘Have you not read?’

In our modern day, with plentiful and easy access to the Scriptures, no one has any excuse to not have read God has said in His word, the Bible.”

If you aren’t reading the Bible regularly, what is your unsupportable and unconvincing excuse? Whatever it is, be rid of it. Turn the indictment “Have you not read?” into the acquittal “You have have read and are reading”.

“The Bible is the only infallible source of truth. Read it daily.” - Trevor Sheatz

If that is the extent of your plan, stick to it. Allow nothing to keep you from it.

From my X / Twitter “For you” feed this afternoon, something which I‘m passing along “for you” -

“Over the years, I’ve compiled more than 20 Bible reading plans designed to help you read and meditate on Scripture throughout the New Year.

Take a look and tell me which you will be using.

If you have a favorite plan I missed, I would love to add it to the list.”

(Nathan W. Bingham, Ligonier Ministries)

You may not be using any of them but you might decide to try one of them. I hope you’ll review his list, but my wider hope is that you’ll read the Bible daily in the coming year, and beyond.

Every Bible reading plan has something in common.

I’ll be using a modified version of this daily Bible reading plan in 2026. Instead of 30 days, I‘ll be reading repetitively 7 days.

From my X / Twitter “For you” feed this evening -

“Spiritual Planning for 2026

Picking a Bible-reading plan is great.

But this time of year is the perfect time of year to make a real plan to go further and grow deeper.

The last several years I’ve made a spiritual training plan. Here’s what I’m doing this year and why.”

“Spiritual training” is a good way to think about Bible reading plans.

We have a few days remaining in this year to plan for what we will do in the coming year. Here’s some good food for thought to help us make our own spiritual training plans.

Greetings again Matthias,
“What‘s your best Bible reading plan for the new year?
Drop it below for the edification of our souls?”
I use the following Bible Reading Plan, the same as I mentioned in Post #12. It suggests that we read three portions each day, and this would cover reading the OT once per year and the NT twice a year. I only read one portion per day, and this then takes three years to complete the plan. In 2026 I will be reading the first OT portion starting with Genesis.

I usually read from an Interlinear RV/KJV Bible, but I am also interested in reading and comparing Robert Alter's "The Hebrew Bible" which I purchased recently. I was happy that he translated Exodus 3:14 as "I will be", the same as Tyndale and the RV and RSV margins.

Kind regards
Trevor

If you do, come up with a plan to change that relationship.

From my X / Twitter “For you” feed this evening: an invitation from John Piper -

“If you don’t have a plan, join me in reading through the Bible in 2026 with the Navigators Bible Reading Plan, which I have used for decades. You can print it, or read on your device at YouVersion.

The genius of this plan is that there are only 25 assigned days each month. So, you can catch up. Or use these days to memorize.

We will be commenting on lots of these texts on ‘Ask Pastor John’ throughout the year.”

I’ve never used this plan. If you have, let me know what you liked or didn’t like about it. If you decide to use it this year, let others know and invite them to join you.

“9 recommendations for Bible reading in 2026.

1. Set a time and make a plan. Your Bible will not crawl into your lap. If you don’t plan well, lesser things will crowd out greater things.

2. Read slowly. What’s the rush? Being fast is not the goal.

3. Leave time to ponder and reflect. Meditation is how we chew the cud.

4. Underline and write. Take notes in the margins, circle things that stand out, even keep a journal with more extended thoughts and questions.

5. Identify verses to memorize. Memorization increases internalization. Hide the Word in your heart.

6. Find places in Scripture that are easy for you to ignore. All of Scripture is God-breathed, so let’s read like that’s true.

7. Pair Bible-reading and prayer together. Do what Don Whitney calls ‘praying the Bible.’ Let what you’re reading inform how and what you pray.

8. Read large chunks. Maybe you can’t do this every day. But what if you had goals to read through certain Bible books in a single setting? Take an afternoon and read through Matthew or Isaiah or Proverbs or Revelation.

9. Remember the kind of Book you’re reading. The Bible isn’t like any other book. It is the inspired, authorized revelation of the true and living God.”

From my X / Twitter “For you” feed this morning; a word of encouragement -

“We are ten days into the year and your Bible reading plan may be falling behind. Don’t give up, pick up where you left off, and keep reading. Start slow, read often, and read actively.”

(Pastor Rusty Dawson)

“If you‘ve never read your Bible cover to cover, what are you doing on X?”

(Pastor Ryan Denton)

I think that’s a fair question for a pastor to put to all Christians.

The Bible > social media.

What is our priority? Let’s read the Bible, regularly, first and foremost. Then, if we want to, we can spend some time on social media.

My modified intensive Bible reading plan for this year is going very well. I wish had tried something like it years ago. What is your reading plan this year?
