Bible Study: 1 John - Continuing from here.
1 John 3:
4 Everyone who sins breaks the law; in fact, sin is lawlessness. 5 But you know that he appeared so that he might take away our sins. And in him is no sin. 6 No one who lives in him keeps on sinning. No one who continues to sin has either seen him or known him.
7 Dear children, do not let anyone lead you astray. The one who does what is right is righteous, just as he is righteous. 8 The one who does what is sinful is of the devil, because the devil has been sinning from the beginning. The reason the Son of God appeared was to destroy the devil’s work.

John reports in verse 4 to the believers in his day, that Everyone who sins breaks the law; in fact, sin is lawlessness. Sin is known as hamartia in the greek, and it is known as an archery term which is to miss the mark, according to the living standards of the written law of Moses, everyone has at least broken 1 or more of those commandments in this life time, and the Law there is mean to direct us to the one who can save us -> Yeshua Christ, and faith on his death, burial, and resurrection.
In verse 5, But (John) says to those believers then and there, But you know that he (Jesus- Yeshua), appeared so that he might take away our sins (which he did, and does actively to some degree now today by the power of the Spirit), I believe this line John is writing here, in verse 5, And in Him is no sin, is talking about how when we remain in Christ, he is able to cleanse our hearts. And those who abide in Christ, living by the spirit they will not sin because the Holy Spirit, and the Spirit of Yeshua living in you can not sin when you are allowing the holy spirit to help and guide you.
In Verse 6, As explained above, John states here No one who "Lives" in him - implying abiding in Christ *(John 15)*, keeps on sinning (the believer becomes dead to their old life and ways and not setting focus on Jesus Christ and his ways, and being lead by the holy spirit, and the spirit of Christ that abodes in our hearts as believers. John states No one who continues to sin has either seen him or known him. This is implication of those who continue on as encouraging to do wrong, and bad things, which end up breaking the law, have seen Yeshua, or have know Yeshua whom we are to abide in.

7 Dear children, do not let anyone lead you astray. The one who does what is right is righteous, just as he is righteous. 8 The one who does what is sinful is of the devil, because the devil has been sinning from the beginning. The reason the Son of God appeared was to destroy the devil’s work.
John encourages in verse 7, do not let anyone lead you astray (from what you have heard from the beginning, the Gospel of Christ, his life, death, burial, resurrection, his return, the holy spirit, the spirit of Christ, the price he paid for the sin of the world.
The one who does what is right is righteousness (abiding in Christ who is the righteousness of God)
In Verse 8 John states The one who does what is sinful is of the devil, (in that day the devil and Adversary was very prevalent among Christians in this time period), Those who continued to worship Idols, and deny God and live their own way, were seen as children of the devil (Adversary), because the devil has been sinning from the beginning.
In verse 8 John concludes a statement that may be overlooked sometimes, The reason the Son of God appeared (was sent from heaven - possibly due to his return?) was to destroy the devil's work.
9 No one who is born of God will continue to sin, because God’s seed remains in them; they cannot go on sinning, because they have been born of God. 10 This is how we know who the children of God are and who the children of the devil are: Anyone who does not do what is right is not God’s child, nor is anyone who does not love their brother and sister. The one who does what is right is righteousness (abiding in Christ who is the righteousness of God)

In verse 9, John say No one who is born of God will continue to sin, because God's seed remains in them, - - - This is due to the changed life and heart of the once nonbeliever - who has changed their mind and started to seek after God in faith, despite all else, -- God's seed remains in them which would mean the Holy Spirit, the Spirit of Christ, the seed that will come into one heart and produce fruits of the spirit, and love for God and love for Others. John states they cannot go on sinning, (because they realize the effects that it causes in their lives to continue to practice or to cause trouble ; whatever is of the darkness and not of the light), because they have been born of God and have experienced renewal of their soul, (mind/will/emotion).
In verse 10, This is how we know who are the children of God and who are the children of the devil are (who had not yet been destroyed), Anyone who does not do what is right, is not God's Child, nor is anyone who does not love their brother and sister.
John notes here Anyone who does not do what is right; - acting on fleshly darkness, and not heavenly light - is not God's Child, nor is anyone who does not love their brother and sister - quite a high standard here but it is all possible through abiding in the Lord Jesus Christ.
