Debating Biblical Epistemology

This debate thread was inspired by the amount of non-debate threads that thrive here in the debate forum. Since such threads are irrelevant to the forum topic, they are considered spam by definition. At the time of writing this, we have spam thriving in our forum. In principle, the more proper threads we have over improper threads, the higher quality forum we have.

Epistemology is a branch of philosophy that is concerned with knowledge. Biblical epistemology, or Christian epistemology, is the truth regarding knowledge that may be found in the Bible. While we are all free to discuss epistemology here, the focus of this thread is to debate over the underlined questions, along with others like it, listed below.

Consider this thread to have the potential to be a goldmine for biblical correction and teaching, but always beware of false teachings that contradict Scripture, and doctrines that are not supported by Scripture.

You may use these questions as a guideline to influence your thinking and your posts:

- Why is epistemology important?
- What is knowledge?
- How is knowledge obtained?
- From which Scriptures can Christian epistemology be deduced?

We are a living community, so enjoy in the Lord, remain steadfast in the board rules, and note that although community members may not have direct power to clean these boards, we do have power to report spam to staff and post only in proper places. Staff member HammerStone says that "Christianity board is a place for thoughtful discussion", so let's think about the forum categories before we post. Now let's generate some discussion and strengthen the quality of our forum.

Let's consider how knowledge is obtained. Keep in mind, this is a pro-debate environment.

Colossians 1:16-17
For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him: And he is before all things, and by him all things consist.

Romans 2:15
Which shew the work of the law written in their hearts, their conscience also bearing witness, and their thoughts the mean while accusing or else excusing one another;

God created men. Men have a law written in their hearts. Therefore, God gave men knowledge.

It is shown that God gave men knowledge, so knowledge is obtained by God, but we can deduce more.

All things are created by God; visible and invisible. This includes men, thoughts, sensations, and everything else that exists. Since both the thoughts and sensations of men are created and upheld by the same power, they are not influenced by eachother on a metaphysical level. This means that sensation cannot produce thought. Metaphysically speaking, we do not know because we see, but we both know and see because of God's power causing us to know and see.

This next piece is especially intended to be carefully considered: Metaphysically speaking, since everything created is created and upheld by the same uncreated power, everything created is influenced by nothing created.

Therefore, knowledge is obtained directly by God, and by nothing else.

Well, Rudometkin, Adam and Eve's knowledge of good and evil was experiential. They disobeyed God and experienced knowledge of moral failure, becoming aware of something God didn't want them to experience but foreknew as inevitable.

The Bible links knowledge and wisdom, and further identifies two sorts of wisdom, but it is true that without God-given sentience no-one would have the ability to know anything.

Jas 3:13
Who is a wise man and endued with knowledge among you? let him show out of a good conversation his works with meekness of wisdom.

Thank you for joining, Stumpmaster.

God is not fooled.

Therefore it must be that He intended to give Adam and Eve knowledge, and He didn't need to.
