In the New Testament the word WORLD is used many times. Many people do not understand that there are two different words translated to English as world.
êḯóìïò
kosmos
kos'-mos
Probably from the base of G2865; orderly arrangement, that is, decoration; by implication the world (in a wide or narrow sense, including its inhabitants, literally or figuratively [morally]): - adorning, world.
kosmos - This is how most of us understand the use of the word ‘world’.
The other Greek word that is translated to WORLD is:
áé̓ù́í
aiōn
ahee-ohn'
From the same as G104; properly an age; by extension perpetuity (also past); by implication the world; specifically (Jewish) a Messianic period (present or future): - age, course, eternal, (for) ever (-more), [n-]ever, (beginning of the, while the) world (began, without end). Compare G5550.
aion - proper meaning in an AGE, specifically a Messianic period.
Let us read the scriptures where KJV translated ‘aion into ‘world’.
Mat 12:32 And whosoever speaketh a word against the Son of man, it shall be forgiven him: but whosoever speaketh against the Holy Ghost, it shall not be forgiven him, neither in this world, neither in the world to come.
Jesus speaking to Pharisee’s is telling them that whosoever speaketh against the Holy Ghost, shall not be forgiven in this world ‘age’ (age of Law) or in the ‘age’ (church age) to come. They were still in the age of Law at the time Jesus was speaking.
Mat 13:22 He also that received seed among the thorns is he that heareth the word; and the care of this world, and the deceitfulness of riches, choke the word, and he becometh unfruitful.
Jesus speaking to his disciples is saying the care of this world ‘age’ (age of Law). So he wasn’t speaking about the care of the planet earth, but obedience to the Law.
Mat 13:38 The field is the world; the good seed are the children of the kingdom; but the tares are the children of the wicked one;
Mat 13:39 The enemy that sowed them is the devil; the harvest is the end of the world; and the reapers are the angels.
Mat 13:40 As therefore the tares are gathered and burned in the fire; so shall it be in the end of this world.
Jesus explaining the ‘end of the world’ to his disciples. He states that the tares are the children wicked and it is the devil that has tried to sow them in with the children of God.
I would like to point out to those that believe the prophecy of ‘Left Behind’ theology that it is the children of the wicked that were to be gathered up out of the world ‘age of law’ not the children of the kingdom and certainly not any of the ‘church age’ which had not even been formed at the time Jesus was speaking.
Eph 3:21 Unto him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus throughout all ages, world without end. Amen.
Paul writing to the church of Ephesus is pointing out that the church age is the world ‘age’ without end.
We should not let anyone that tells us that Jesus will come again to destroy our world ‘church age’.
All of the above is for our knowledge and it is important that we Christians find a church where the leaders are not blind to the word of God!
