The bibles contains a very small percentage of God's words.

They contain more then you'll ever know., as God teaches by and through His word.....
So when you decided that you didnt need the bible, and wanted to judge the bible and falsely judge the real Christians who love God's word, you showed us your true inner self.......

There is a REASON that God has preserved His Holy Word for over 4500 yrs, and it'll be empowering the born again and leading the lost to The Cross by the WORDS found in A bible.......long after you are not around ... @One 2 question

When Jesus was on the Earth, He would go into Jewish synagogs, and open the word of God., and read from it.
This is the Old Testament.
Jesus read from the scrolls containing writings from a few of God's people.
Jesus said..."""""Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me."""""
Absolutely. They definitely testify of Him.
The "scriptures" that Jesus is talking about is the OLD TESTAMENT "The Torah"..

IN the NT, we find the word of God, the Gospel that shows a sinner the only Way to Heaven... John 14:6... and warns a sinner of eternal damnation.......John 3:36.
We see in the word of God, that is also the New Testament...... the Cross of Christ and the words of Jesus, and all of this is given by the Holy Spirit, as The NT, that is presereved by God, forever.
Yes, God's words includes these and much, much, much more and will never be exhausted as God continues to speak.
God is looking for people who will "study (the bible) to show themselves approved unto God".... Paul teaches Christians.
Sure. And those who have His Spirit within them, chosen by God from all over the world to make up the church.
You, @One 2 question ........have no use for any of this, so, enjoy your opinions, as they are your religion.
Why can't children of God get revelations of truth directly from the Spirit God deposited in them? Why is it difficult to accept that our Creator communicates directly with His creation, especially those He has made His people, His children.?

I agree. I have had communion with God that goes beyond the bible. Some people think the only way to know God is thru the bible. That simply is not correct. We have the Holy Spirit that teaches us to love God and love our neighbor. He also teaches us to obey the commandments.

It is nice to have the bible to refresh our memories about what the Holy Spirit has taught us. And for a history of our faith. But too many think it is the only source of revelation.

I feel safer believing what the Bible says about itself. I don't understand the expression "goes beyond the Bible."

I suppose I might as well come out of the closet. I'm what deconstructionist antagonists will likely see as a practitioner of Bibliolatry.

I do not believe that the only way to know God is through the Bible, but I do believe it is the very best way and that, without it I would, comparably speaking, very likely have hardly any understanding of God at all. And I believe the Bible is infinitely more than a memory refresher.

When I think of what Jesus and His Word has done for me and my life and my family and friends, I feel an awe that is very incompatible with the sentiments of skeptics.

I truly don't understand the thought process for Bible reductionism on one hand, and using it to support favored views on the other.

Granted, I don't subscribe to verbal inspiration and biblical and manuscript infallibility as do most who view the Bible as everything it says about itself, but I don't believe it's necessary to hold such extreme, undemonstrable views to revere the Word as the perfect guide in faith and practice.

The Word is every bit as reliable and efficacious as the Word made flesh, just as it is every bit as inexplicable in its combination of the human and the divine.

If this makes me a perpetrator of Bibliolatry, I fear I have no defense.

Adam and Eve knew God before there was any bible. God spoke directly to Cain before the scriptures ever existed.

Yes He does. And more importantly He enables us to love God and our neighbours. He is truly amazing how the Resident Spirit releases His character within us and it finds it way out of us.

I remember back to when the bible was my only source of revelation. I used this well to find truth, in which I found it.

But a number of years ago the Spirit revealed that I had become too fixated and dependant on this source, the bible.

Just now the Spirit has made it clearer, that just as in the past holy men of God spoke as they were moved by the Holy Spirit, so are the holy members of the church. We are carried along by the same Spirit today. This is great news.

We don't need second hand information, truth or words from God, we can get it first hand, directly from the Holy Spirit.
Hello and I hope your efforts are blessed by God as you desire to serve him and make efforts along that direction. He leads us to him out of darkness of false thought and beliefs. Today in the world things can be distracting and consider please the holy bible at times and written accounts of God in your life and also memories of his works we have been provided.

Happy you are doing well.

Yes, God's endless volume of words He expresses throughout eternity will be more then I'll ever know.
So when you decided that you didnt need the bible, and wanted to judge the bible and falsely judge the real Christians who love God's word, you showed us your true inner self.......
God's truths in the scriptures, in the bibles, expressed through the members of the church by the Spirit of God to this day are absolutely precious.
There is a REASON that God has preserved His Holy Word for over 4500 yrs, and it'll be empowering the born again and leading the lost to The Cross by the WORDS found in A bible.......long after you are not around ... @One 2 question
Absolutely. Yet I'm privileged, as are others, to be able to receive God's words that aren't in the scriptures or bibles and to share them with others. These too, being God's words, will endure forever.

Then share whatever you believe, next......, without trying to be deceptive by telling people that the Holy Spirit who wrote the Bible... (men just wrote it down)........wants you to not use the bible.

Listen, whatever "voice in your head" or similer is talking to you and telling you that you dont need the bible...... you need to get rid of that voice.

And one more...
= any voice in your head or in your spirit.....that is giving you instruction.........you ALWAYS judge this by the word of God, (New Testament, Paul's teaching).... so ..... we see you are being misled, as the word of God says to "Study the bible"...... not, set it aside and listen to inner voices, instead. @One 2 question

Believe it.

op: bibliolatry?
Yes, guilty as charged! Because of:

Handling The Word Of Life!

Amen.
What do mean here, 'Because of handling the Word of Life?' Obviously you weren't alive when John heard Jesus, the Word of Life. Nor saw Him with your eyes and looked upon Him. Nor touched and handles Jesus the Word of Life.

So how can you be guilty of this?

Yes.
It seems very strange, the anthropomorphic terms used when speaking about a book.
I cringe when my Pastor asks everyone to grab their copy of the Word of God.

We do get Truth from the Spirit of God as found in the Holy Bible.
I don't disagree with you. It is a great resource.
This is why the bible exists..... as the words in the Holy Bible are spirit and they are LIFE.
If a person decides to make a glass bottle, then fills it up with water from a lake, then the bottle was made to contain water. It is a water bottle.

If various people gather water from the same lake and puts that water into water bottles then put them together in a carton. You have a carton of water bottles.

Does that carton of water bottles contain all the water in the lake? Of course not.

Nor does a bible (carton), no matter if it contains 80, 73, 66 books. Even if it contained a million books it would not come close to holding every word that comes from the mouth of God, God's words.
Jesus said.>>"the words i have spoken to you, are spirit and life"..
Words of Jesus which John heard with his ears. Absolutely

So, where do you find those words of Jesus?

A.) IN The New Testament.
A very few of course. Hear what John concluded

Jhn 21:24 This is the disciple which testifieth of these things, and wrote these things: and we know that his testimony is true.

Why is it true?

That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked upon, and our hands have handled, of the Word of life;
(For the life was manifested, and we have seen it, and bear witness, and shew unto you that eternal life, which was with the Father, and was manifested unto us;)
That which we have seen and heard declare we unto you. 1Jn 1:1-3

Jhn 21:25 And there are also many other things which Jesus did, the which, if they should be written every one, I suppose that even the world itself could not contain the books that should be written. Amen.

I have encountered some that I thought had fallen into this trap.

I asked them, "What would become of your faith if you put your whole library out on the curb on trash day?"
The guilty are left mostly speechless. Or, alternatively VERY angry. How come?

To be clear, I love the Bible and use it every day. But I know the difference between the book and the author.
In my experience, my relationship with the author is much more important than my relationship with the book.
Appropriate scriptures come to my mind all day long. Due to the work of the Spirit to quicken these things to my memory.

The Bible is not omniscient. (all knowing)
The Bible is not omnipresent. (everywhere present)
The Bible is not omnipotent. (all powerful)

The Bible does NOT love me.
It's paper and ink, maybe a leather cover. (or digital info)
That cow didn't die to pay my sin debt.

A true Bibliolator will demand chapter and verse to support my premise. - LOL

The bottom line:
Let's use the Bible to grow closer to God and each other, rather than as a weapon to destroy each other.

John 13:35 NIV
By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.”
I'm not going to consider honoring anything given to us by the Holy Spirit as idolatry. That seems very inappropriate.

Great post, Steven! What good is it to know the entire Bible if we don't love our brother?
If they knew it, they would love their brother.

Are you familiar with the story about Nehushtan?

2 Kings 18:4 NIV
He removed the high places, smashed the sacred stones and cut down the Asherah poles.
He broke into pieces the bronze snake Moses had made, for up to that time the Israelites had been
burning incense to it. (It was called Nehushtan.)

Numbers 21:8-9 NIV
The Lord said to Moses, “Make a snake and put it up on a pole; anyone who is bitten can look at it and live.”
9 So Moses made a bronze snake and put it up on a pole. Then when anyone was bitten by a snake
and looked at the bronze snake, they lived.

John 3:14-15 NIV
Just as Moses lifted up the snake in the wilderness, so the Son of Man must be lifted up,
15 that everyone who believes may have eternal life in him.”

The problem isn't with the Bible. The problem is with those who worship it as a false god. (Nehushtan)

Any spirit that would lead you away from the Bible is not a spirit coming from the Lord.

Bibliolatry: Worship/knowledge of the book MORE than the author

People who reject what God says... cannot have fellowship with the Lord.

God and His Word cannot be separated and it was Jesus that personally over saw what God said to be put in to written form.

Rejecting the written Word of God, and trying to get others to do the same, if the work of the devil who always seeks to get man to ignore or question what God says.

So of course the devil would inspire a few of his servants to come up with this "bibliolatry" nonsense. rolleyes2.gif

Would rather read a book, or hear the author speak?

Depends on WHO you are considering the "Author" to be

If you are calling God the Author, then God is the One Who had what He wants man to know put in written form.

If you are calling the devil author, then ignoring God's written Word is the thing to do

The devil is the one who came up with this "bibliolatry" nonsense. Enjoy thumbsup2.gif

If you stopped reading the Bible, would you ever hear from God again?

You should try it for a week.
