This is the 'born again' passage.
John 3:3, Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.
v5:except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. 6 That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.
From Authorised Version King James.
All it says is that we are born again by the action of the Spirit.
well you have to watch out for that " imho"

There is no need to apologise for your slipshod interpretation of such a stright forward passage.again interpretation in a slipshod manner is not acceptable - why only born again in v3 and born again of weater and spirit in v5 - twinc
it is frequently stated that again means from above
- this only means that both mean from above and includes not just Nicodemus but all non Christians exactly as Jesus said and really meant imho - twinc

As Jesus says, that which is born of water is flesh and that which is born of spirit is spirit ie conversion from nonchristian to Christian.
I actually never found a verse which says " born again from above"
Please show me where it is. I see "born again"...but I have lost the "born again from above" quote.
Thanks.
