LOL The New Testament was written by Catholics.
Um, No it was not. it was written by jewish Christians, some of who became apostles.
All the Apostles and the Early Church were Catholic.
No they were not
There was no other Church.
I disagree. Paul wrote to the church of Rome, the church at Corinth, The church at Ephesus.

They were not catholic.
The Orthodox splintered off in 1054 A.D. and Protestantism didn't begin until the 16th century, begun by rogue Catholics. It was the Catholic Church that decided definitively what books belonged in the New Testament when they compiled it in the late 4th century. Before that, there was no Bible with Old and New Testament under one cover.
It was the catholic church who killed people who did not follow them
It was the catholic church who imprisoned those it considered heretics
It was the catholic church who burned any books or writing they did not agree with
it was the catholic church who used to armies of Rome to force the people they ruled to follow them, and reject all other beliefes.

for 1500 years. no one could believe anything else for fear of the roman bully which called itself the church.

It was not until the power of rome crashed that people started to feel save to come out of the closet and actually openly profess a belief that differed from the roman church.

But hey, You want to follow that church, feel free. But your "history" excuse will not help anyone come to your faith, because when we look at your history. we are appalled. Not overjoyed.

Catholics should be ashamed, not boasting

If Calvin had the interpretation intended by the authors, he would have remained Catholic and held to the interpretation intended by those authors. The fact that he changed the interpretation indicates that he was holding to his own personal interpretation, not that of the authors of Scripture. The Bible is Catholic book, and was so long, long before Protestantism arose.
It is laughable that the Roman Catholic Church claims to be "the faith that was once for all entrusted to the saints" in the first century, Jude 1:3! See page 7 on this pdf file of 402 pages. Link at bottom of list.

"One of the first things that we want to point out in this study is that the Roman Catholic
Church has not always been what it is today. Rather, it has reached its present state as the
result of a long, slow process of development as through the centuries one new doctrine,
or ritual, or custom after another has been added. Even a superficial reading of the
following list will make clear that most of the distinctive features of the system were
unknown to Apostolic Christianity, and that one can hardly recognize in present day
Romanism the original Christian doctrines. Not all dates can be given with exactness
since some doctrines and rituals were debated or practiced over a period of time before
their formal acceptance."

The Catholic Church is the original Church founded by Christ. St. Ignatius of Antioch, the bishop of Antioch ordained by St. Peter, was captured by the Romans. While they were transporting him to be martyred for the faith, he wrote a letter to the Smyrnaeans around 107-110 A.D., referring to the "Catholic Church," not in such a manner as if he were coining the term, but in such a manner in which he fully expected the Smyrnaeans to understand what he was talking about.

It says in paragraph 8, "Where the bishop is present, there let the congregation gather, just as where Jesus Christ is, there is the Catholic Church."

Here we have an individual, taught by the Apostles John and Peter, ordained by St. Peter and assigned as bishop of Antioch, referring to the Catholic Church. He wasn't coining the term. He fully expected the Smyrnaeans to understand what he meant.

The "church of Rome" the "Church at Corinth" etc., were just churches in those locations that were all Catholic. THERE WAS NO OTHER CHURCH. Christ established ONE Church and it remained that way until 1054 A.D.

So, you're going to use an anti-Catholic .pdf from Lorraine Boettner to try to make your point? LOL

Lorraine Boettner has been proven a fake long ago. His book is full of lies and errors.

Here are some articles that discuss some of his claims:

For you evangelicals on here, reading Roman Catholic Augustin56's replies, notice with whom you are in agreement with on "free will". Martin Luther' book Bondage of the Will was an answer in debate with the Romanist beliefs. The arguments made by the Romanists against Luther, are many of the same arguments used by the Arminians of today, the evangelicals. I've found it odd that some denominations or groups who are rabidly anit-RCC are equally rabidly free-willers!

It's really difficult to speak about Protestantism as a whole in detail because there are so many differing and contradictory beliefs within the group. The only unifying principle I can find is anti-Catholicism. Other than that, they continually splinter and splinter into different, arguing denominations, all based on someone's personal interpretation of Scripture, which Scripture clearly warns against in 2 Peter 1:20-21. There is no unity of belief there.

You assume that that church is the same of your church today. Show me in the bible where your church and how it does things is supported? Show me a church like your church anywhere in the bible, you can;t because you can;t find one.

there was no pope. There were three leaders of the jewish church and one leader of the gentile church, all 4 being leaders of the churches of God. (which is what they were called in the bible. the inspired word of God. so I would use that term..

the catholic church is but one of many denominations

The jew was one nation. Yet it had many forms of its own religion. which prety much same as we see today.

sadly, the one in power at the time, used the same exact arguments catholics use today to crucify Christ.

you would think the Gentile church would learn from the mistakes of the past. But we see with the catholic church, they not only did not learn, but they made (make) the exact same error

its amazing

lets not go to anti catholic website (which would be any web site that disagrees with the catholic church)

lets go to a pro catholic site (as if they are not biased)

how about lets go to a neutral site. where we can get the real unbiased facts

I guess we'll have to agree to disagree, then. I was eduated before the Marxists took over the educational system. I know my history, and the history of the Church. History that was written long before Protestantism reared its head in the 16th century.

Your following men,

I will follow God, and his word. which is able to make me wise for salvation. and able to make me a workman who needs not be ashamed.

Jews followed history also. they crucified Christ.

of course, If Christ came and told you you were wrong. you would crucify him also..

thank you

(Slight aside: It's "You're" not "Your." "Your" is a possessive pronoun. "You're" is a cotraction for "You are.")

You cannot follow God unless you follow the Church He founded. Otherwise, you are making yourself your own god, doing what you want and what you want to believe vs. what He wants and wants you to believe. You shut yourself out of five of the seven Sacraments Christ gave us to help us get to heaven, the most important of which is the Eucharist, which is the Body, Blood, Soul, and Divinity of Jesus Christ, Himself. Jesus said, “Amen, amen, I say to you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you do not have life within you. Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise him on the last day. For my flesh is true food, and my blood is true drink." John 6:53-55.

Since Protestantism has lost the sacrament of Holy Orders, it has no priests. Having no priests who can consecrate the Eucharist means they have no Eucharist. No Eucharist, no compliance with John 6:53-55.

All you have is personal interpretation of Scripture, which St. Peter warns against in 2 Peter 1:20-21.

Know this first of all, that there is no prophecy of scripture that is a matter of personal interpretation, for no prophecy ever came through human will; but rather human beings moved by the holy Spirit spoke under the influence of God.

God is not in a building; God indwells the Born again from above Christian. You'll never follow a building into Heaven, nor can you find God in a building, nor can the Eucharist to get to Heaven. Only Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, offers a way. Never lose sight of that. You have two choices in this world, don't make the wrong one. Choose Jesus, not the church.

Matthew 7::13-14 - Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat: because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.

This is legalistic, it looks to self and not God.

what is faith?

Faith is an assurance of a trust that the person who we trust is trustworthy, that he will do what he says.

In the gospel. Faith is an assurance that God will save us eternally based on his sons sacrifice. And that we who trust him actually trust that he will keep his word. Not based on us, but on him.

Now, Like we are shown with Abraham, Faith works in other areas also. Abraham was assured, or trusted that God would raise his son from the dead (Because God made a promise he would have children and a nation would come from that child) and his faith caused him to work.

True faith causes us to work, it is not the result of work.
No, it's not legalistic. Faith includes works, as James said.
James 2.20 You foolish person, do you want evidence that faith without deeds is useless?

is the attempt to be good apart from God's Word, to get Saved apart from Christ and his Word. I'm suggesting that false faith puts itself out there as a mind-set, instead of as an active choice to participate with and partner with God's Word via the embrace of Christ's atonement.

1st, we embrace Christ, which is the total will of God, providing us with Eternal Salvation. And then, having done that we follow up by exercising our faith in God's Word, which is what Christ died to give us eternally.

Just "belief" does not save. It is the object of our faith, which is Christ's Word, that saves us and enables us to do good, be good, and have our good deeds follow us.

Faith is only the opposite of Works if we are talking about empty, unspiritual faith that does not have Christ and his Word as its object. Faith and Works are integrally related in God's Kingdom.

False Faith does *not* Save! True Faith determines to obtain Christ and to display Christ. In Hebrews 11, the faithful all display in their Works the Faith that is properly centered on God's Word.

If we adopt Protestantism as purely a dogmatism, an orthodoxy, with its own unique formula, creed, and litmus test, we will miss out on the excesses that are involved in its push without inspiration. If we wish to push a true orthodoxy, we have to do so in a spiritual way, and not as if it is a form of political activism. Think through your responses before you respond.

"Faith" is not a thing that obtains for us Salvation apart from God's Word, apart from Christ. It is not the thing that Saves you. It is Christ who died for you, who Saves you. Our Faith is the means of receiving that truth and operating in that truth. It is Works of Faith that operate properly in God's Kingdom, and not Works apart from God's Word. And it most certainly is *not* no Works at all!

You do realize that AI only uses existing information, right? It doesn't create historical information.
You either did not read or do not comprehend the English language. I said in closing my remarks: "using various AI search engines helps recognize biases and varied perspectives."

The AI search engines usually give the source and if they don't, you can easily use "Find on Page" <ctrl F> and search for the phrasing given in the answers. I'll give the AI search engines that I use:
