Dude, in order for a person to be born after the Genesis flood, the person must have ancestors who survived the flood.
So your statement is non sequitur.

the mountains could very well have been raised up after the flood etc
There's a high probability you're right. At one time, the four rivers depicted
at Gen 2:10-14 forked off the Eden River and supplied water to an immense
geographic area comprised of parts of Turkey, Ethiopia, Eritrea, Nubia,
Somalia, Saudi Arabia, Yemen, Oman, Palestine, Jordan, Syria,
Mesopotamia, and Iraq. We can be pretty sure that the Earth underwent
some dramatic geological events in the distant past because it is now
impossible for a river in Ethiopia to connect in any way at all with the Tigris
and Euphrates rivers of today's world.

†. Gen 7:19-20 . .When the waters had swelled much more upon the earth,
all the highest mountains everywhere under the sky were covered. Fifteen
cubits higher did the waters swell, as the mountains were covered.

The Hebrew word for "mountains" in that passage is har (har) which can
indicate a range of hills as well as individual peaks like the Matterhorn
and/or the Eiger; which suggests to me that mountain ranges such as the
Rockies, the Andes, the Himalayas, and the Alps of Noah's day weren't the
skyscraping monsters that they are today. Subsequently; it would have
required much less water to inundate the earth than is commonly thought.

†. Mark 11:22-25 . . Have faith in God; Jesus answered. I tell you the truth:
if anyone says to this mountain "Go, throw yourself into the sea" and does
not doubt in his heart but believes that what he says will happen, it will be
done for him. Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe
that you have received it, and it will be yours.

I quoted that verse to show that God is powerful enough to literally move
mountains; which tells me that if He can manipulate one mountain, then He
can manipulate any of them; viz: raising and lowering mountains and/or hills
at will can't be any harder for Him than it was to create them in the first
place. And if God can push them up, He can just as easily push them down;
and plans to.

†. Rev 16:20 . . Every island fled away and the mountains could not be
found.

"Every island" probably refers to the earth's continents. People in the past
may have had trouble believing that verse but we today, thanks to the
science of plate tectonics, know for sure that it's very possible to combine all
of the earths dry land into one big, massive super continent.

"the mountains could not be found" indicates that God intends to shove
them all back down where they came from. The earthquake that will result
from the kind of geological activity that I'm describing will be so severe on
the Richter scale that it will make the devastation caused by the 2010
earthquake in Haiti seem no more serious than a messy teen-ager's room.

†. Rev 16:18-19 . .Then there came . . . a severe earthquake. No quake
like it has ever occurred since man has been on earth, so tremendous was the
quake . . . and the cities of the nations collapsed.

Roughly 2,000 people died when only the two buildings of the World Trade
Center came down. Just imagine the body count when all of Manhattan
comes down at once; along with major cities like Los Angeles, San Francisco,
Mexico City, Paris, Moscow, Beijing, Tokyo, Sidney, et al. The carnage will be
beyond belief-- fires will be everywhere from ruptured gas pipes; power will
be out; phone lines dead; public transit stopped; water pressure zero; nuclear
power plants scrammed; and ATMs inoperable. Forget about expecting help.
Emergency services like police, firemen, and hospitals will be overwhelmed,
if not just as devastated as the rest. Food and water? Any markets fortunate
to survive the collapsing, will become armed camps to repel looters and
thieves, and families with children desperate for necessities.

Yet fallen angels would have survived the flood because they are spiritual beings. The daughters of men also would have survived the flood as evidenced by your being alive. So what is to keep the Nephilim from being born even today?

Jude 1:6 "And the angels who did not keep their positions of authority but abandoned their proper dwelling—these he has kept in darkness, bound with everlasting chains for judgment on the great Day."

Genises 6:4
4There were giants in the earth in those days; and also after that, when the sons of God came in unto the daughters of men, and they bare children to them, the same became mighty men which were of old, men of renown.

They didn't survive the flood but some were born after the flood.
Indeed they were - note:
Genesis 6:4, Numbers 13:33 - Giant - H5303 = nephı̂yl nephil From H5307; properly, a feller, that is, a bully or tyrant: - giant.

Deut 2:10, 11, Deut 2:20, Deut 3:11, 13. Joshua 12:4. 2 Samuel 21:18, 1 Chron 20:4, 6, 8 - Giant - H7498 = râphâ' râphâh From H7495 in the sense of invigorating; a giant: - giant, Rapha, Rephaim.
H1051 = bêyth râphâ' From H1004 and H7497; house of (the) giant; Beth-Rapha, an Israelite: - Beth-rapha. Dead ones.

Also known as: Emims by the Moabites
Emims - H368 = 'êymı̂ym - Plural of H367; terrors; Emim, an early Canaanitish (or Moabitish) tribe: - Emims. Terror.

and Zamzummims by the Ammonites
Zamzummims - H2157 = zamzôm From H2161; intriguing; a Zamzumite, or native tribe of Palestine: - Zamzummim. H2161 = zâmam. A primitive root; to plan, usually in a bad sense: - consider, devise, imagine, plot, purpose, think (evil). Long necked ones.

I am assuming that most of the Nephilim [children of the fallen ones] were wiped out by the flood but scripture indicates that other types of giants appeared after that. Particularly during the days of Moses, Joshua and King David.

†. Gen 6:1-2 . . Now it came about, when men began to multiply on the face
of the land, and daughters were born to them, that the sons of God saw that
the daughters of men were goodly; and they took wives for themselves,
whomever they chose.

The precise identity of the "sons of God" has been debated. Some say they
were the sons of the aristocracy of that day who married attractive women
from among the commoners. Others say they were renegade spirit creatures
who cohabited with humans to produce a hybrid strain of hominid freaks.
Others say they were pious men who, instead of marrying pious women of
like faith, married outsiders; viz: infidels-- implying that "daughters of men"
are irreverent women who don't fear the Bible's God. (e.g. Gen 26:34-35)

It's quite rational to deduce from the text that otherwise pious men were
overcome with sensual lust and built themselves harems of impious women;
who subsequently became the mothers of irreverent children. Intermarriage
between men of faith and infidel women is as old a practice as adultery; and
a proven tactic for watering down, compromising, and even extinguishing
Bible beliefs and practices (e.g. Num 31:7-16). The people of God are
strictly, unequivocally, and clearly forbidden to marry outside their faith.
(Deut 7:1-4, 2Cor 6:14-18)

It's never wise for believers to marry outside their faith. A good example is
Solomon. He got off to a good start but down the road accumulated a harem
of foreign women who led him into idolatry; which subsequently caused The
Lord to engineer rebellion in the kingdom. (1Kgs 11 & 12)

Wives can be very effective in influencing an otherwise pious man to
compromise his convictions (e.g. Gen 3:6). All too often, in a mixed
marriage, the mother's religion will be taught to her children because
husbands, as a rule, put a higher priority on sex and peace in the home than
religion, so they won't risk alienating mama by forcing the issue. The sons of
God in Noah's day-- whose wives were chosen based solely upon sex appeal
sans any spiritual prudence whatsoever --all perished in the Flood right
along with their infidel wives and children. Not a one of them had the good
sense to go aboard the ark with Noah.

†. 1Cor 15:33-34 . . Do not be misled: bad company corrupts good
character. Come back to your senses as you ought, and stop sinning; for
there are some who are ignorant of God-- I say this to your shame.

Good post Webers. I agree that the identity of the "sons of God" is likely not referring to angelic or spiritual beings. Likely more of a reference of the godly mixing with the ungodly as you pointed out.

Jude actually quotes the book of Enoch so it's not as clear as recognizing what made it down to us in the canon versus what is not deemed inspired, yet was cited. I've tried to read "sons of God" as non-heavenly, but the term itself is employed in other instances that do describe angelic beings. I'm just not convinced that the Bible would go out of its way to emphasize these particular characteristics if this were one group of humans mingling with another.

Regardless I wanted to point out one thing. Who says that the flood was absolutely global?

The word used can mean the whole world, yes, but it can also mean a specified place. It's kind of like us saying Rome conquered the known world. Rome never conquered the Parthians (which was a known group), much less other smaller groups that existed outside of their scope of operations. Rome certainly never conquered all of China or that much of east Asia, but they are considered the de facto power in history.

This claim can be bolstered by the statement that Cain makes he was banished from the earth (as it's rendered in many translations - 'erets). This is the same word used in Genesis 6:13. It's a legitimate possibility.

I think that is the best approach .... mankind must first prove that such creatures exist today .... and then debate whether they are Nephilim or whatever

After all these years there has never been any proof they even exist

But there have sure been a lot of books sold on the subject based on fake pictures and fake films.

I agree with you on this one HS - there should not be any reason for any dramatic physical changes between one group of humans mingling with another.

I would also like to add that the Hebrew word for "Sons of God" is "Bene Elohim" which occurs four times in the OT Septuagint. Genesis 6:4, Job 1:6, Job 2:1 and Job 38:7.

Please note: what God says to Job in the passage below

Job 38:7.
“Where were you when I laid the foundations of the earth?
Tell Me, if you have understanding.
5 Who determined its measurements?
Surely you know!
Or who stretched the line upon it?
6 To what were its foundations fastened?
Or who laid its cornerstone,
7 When the morning stars sang together,
And all the sons of God
shouted for joy?

This event describes the creation of the earth, clearly before mankind existed.

The word "Bene elohim" noted in the OT always refers to angels of God and not mankind. Most scholars believe this event describes a union between fallen angelic beings and daughters of men. This unnatural occurrence of combining two different species resulted in offspring who were 'giants' noted in the King James and Nephilim in the NKJV. Also in the NASB, and the English translation of the Jewish Masoretic text.

I know the book of enoch is not exactly requred reading in the christian community, but is still quite interesting anway,

here is what it says concerning the nephlim.

Chapter 7 "...and they became pregnant, and they bare great giants, whose height was 3000 ells:who consumed all the acquisitions of men.and when men could no longer sustain them, the giants turned against them and devoured mankind..."

Besides sons of God and sons of men, there are also sons of Belial and sons
of the prophets.

Apparently "belial" isn't a proper name, but simply means good for nothing;
viz: "sons of Belial" is a colloquialism for riffraff. For example: bums, loafers,
thugs, punks, delinquents, trouble-makers, protesters, rabble, scofflaws, the
scum of the earth, cheap goods, low hack, churls, et al.

"sons of the prophets" would refer to seminary students.

From what I've seen, a son of something or other in the Bible is ambiguous;
even arbitrary. But if we're going to call angels "sons of God" then we're
going to have to limit that category to angels that follow God as opposed to
angels that follow the Devil because angels that follow God don't go around
sleeping with women. It insults and denigrates God to insinuate that His
angels are unholy because heaven's angels are clean spirits rather than
unclean.

There's an interesting assembly of the sons of God depicted at Job 1:6
wherein Satan was among them; which serves to remind me that when I go
to church, Satan's sons are in church the same as God's sons. Jesus once said
that where two or three are gathered together in his name; there is he in the
midst. Well; guess who else is there along with the two or three? You would
think that church is hallow ground; and it is; but not that hallow.
