My Dear Brother in YAHshua HaMashiach,
YAHshua is our Sabbath Rest
Jesus is God's Rest for us who believe, for no day of the week is more holy then the next.
Sorry if the text is a bit long but i need to give a complete answer as much as possible. some will try and label me as SDA but I am not. I am just faithful to the word of God and want to do His Will.
Saying that Jesus is our rest is very true, but it is not the same as saying the Sabbath no longer matters or that every day is the same.
Jesus Himself invited people to find rest in Him. He said, “Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest” (Matthew 11:28, NKJV). This rest is rest for the soul. It is about trust, forgiveness, and walking with Him. But Jesus never said this rest replaces the Sabbath day.
Jesus also said, “The Sabbath was made for man, and not man for the Sabbath” (Mark 2:27, NKJV). This shows the Sabbath was given as a gift for people, not as a burden. A gift is not removed just because we find rest in Christ. It still has a purpose.
Jesus did not treat all days as equal. He kept the Sabbath Himself. “As His custom was, He went into the synagogue on the Sabbath day” (Luke 4:16, NKJV). If every day were the same, this detail would not matter. He also said He did not come to destroy the Law but to fulfill it (Matthew 5:17, NKJV). Fulfilling does not mean canceling.
Jesus even spoke of the Sabbath as something that would still matter in the future. He told His disciples to pray that their flight would not be on the Sabbath (Matthew 24:20, NKJV). This makes no sense if the Sabbath had no meaning anymore.
After Jesus, His disciples continued the same pattern. In Acts, we see them teaching and worshiping on the Sabbath (Acts 17:2; Acts 18:4, NKJV). In Revelation, God’s faithful people are described as “those who keep the commandments of God and the faith of Jesus” (Revelation 14:12, NKJV). The Sabbath commandment is part of those commandments.
From the beginning, God set one day apart. “God blessed the seventh day and sanctified it” (Genesis 2:3, NKJV). To sanctify means to make holy. God never said He made all days holy in the same way.
There is also something very important about the Sabbath that should not be ignored. God calls the Sabbath a
sign and a
test, and He places it inside His covenant.
God clearly defined His covenant by the Ten Commandments. Scripture says, “He declared to you His covenant which He commanded you to perform, the Ten Commandments; and He wrote them on two tablets of stone” (Deuteronomy 4:13, NKJV). The Sabbath is not outside that covenant. It stands in the very heart of it.
The Sabbath is also called a sign between God and His people. God said, “Surely My Sabbaths you shall keep, for it is a sign between Me and you throughout your generations, that you may know that I am the LORD who sanctifies you” (Exodus 31:13, NKJV). A sign shows who we belong to. It is not something we invent or remove on our own.
Because it is a sign, the Sabbath also becomes a test of obedience and trust. God said, “That I may test them, whether they will walk in My law or not” (Exodus 16:4, NKJV). The test is not about earning salvation. It is about whether we trust God enough to keep His word as He gave it and trust that He shall provide, just like he did provide for the israelites in the desert giving them Manna.
Jesus never removed this test, and He never redefined the covenant. He kept the Sabbath, taught on it, and showed its true purpose. He warned against lawlessness and said that love for Him is shown by obedience to God’s commandments (John 14:15, NKJV).
We do not have the authority to remove one commandment because it feels different from the others. We cannot say nine remain while one disappears. God did not give us ten suggestions. He gave a covenant. The Sabbath stands as part of that covenant, a sign of loyalty, trust, and rest in the God who sanctifies His people. Keeping the sabbath properly if nit a burden, see Isaiah 58:13
Blessings to you always, David of NJ
