Do young adults 17 and under need automobiles, smart phones, and unrestricted access to computers and television?

For one thing garbage in, garbage out. And automobiles allows the young adult to be independent of their parents.

I was very much against giving smart phones to kids for more reasons than one:
Accessability to weird sites
Porn
Ideology, etc.

Seems like if some kid gets something, then all MUST follow suit.
Exactly what happened.
So now it's almost necessary to have one.
A child, no matter what age, would feel to cut off from the rest of his peers and his social structure.


Autos
Here by me the child gets driven around or he needs his own car.
Especially the kids in the towns surrounding this hub town that I live in - we call it the center of this large mountainess area.

I honestly don't see a problem with driving and/or having a car.
New Yorkers could get around on the subway but I lived out in the burbs and a car was really necessary.

Interesting how things work out:
People had no cars so they stayed near home for everything: school, work, church, stores, etc.

Then cars allowed persons to travel distances so the home center no longer really existed.

Now gas is so expensive people literally consider going to work too far because it cuts into their pay - which is modest here.
So they tend to stay near home.

The more things change...
The more they remain the same.

I raised two kids in NYC....
I faced these problems over 40 years ago.
I think you live in a small place, maybe it was different.

There was always peer pressure...
when my kids were growing up it was the disco scene.
They didn't go because, for some reason - I won't take all the credit - they just weren't interested.
They smoked and what else....whatever. (not mine! In General. Nobody in my family ever smoked...we must be aliens!)
of course it's just getting worse...I'm saying the problems were always present.
I remember when Wometco came out - movies on TV! On demand !
We were very careful about what entered our home - but what about the homes of their friends??

We can only control our kids so much...they ARE out in the world.
I think what's important is to teach them to respect themselves and others and monitor as much as possible.
But will it ever be 100%?
I don't think that's possible.

BTW, most kids don't watch TV anymore.

By the Grace of God I'm not an American, but:

1. The American cities and the suburbs, they are made for the cars. This has been like this since 1950s time.
2. These American suburbs, they are made on purpose to be divided up, with fences and dead-end streets and such things. This is so that the "not wanted" people cannot come there so easy, not walking and not driving also.
3. America is very big country, so between the towns and the shops there can be very long distances. Because of this, it is not practical thing to walk to places (especially when you must carry something back with you, like food shopping from grocery store).
4. The big American cities, they all have these areas where the crazy people walk around. These people, they use drugs and they shout to nothing. Some cities are worse than others for this problem. But the main thing that keeps these homeless camp people in their place is that the American suburbs are made on purpose so that the walking people who don't live there cannot go through them so easy.

What I thought was pathetic was the USA let negroes run areas that no other race could walk by or drive through ! or else you could be killed raped etc !
Mates, who have been to the USA, have been toled do not go down their in that area etc.

If their was a other race that was just like so, in areas forbiden to go for Negroes. the Media and Government would be up in arms !

I was given access to the internet at the age of 14 years old.

I never got my license until I was 25 years old.

I had a phone at the 17-18 it was before smart phone but found smart phone attractive when first seening it knowing the computer like style.

I been using a computer since the age of 14 and now Im 34 years old, and just recently quit internet chatting which I have been doing for about a total of... idk 14 years totalish probably... It's really did a number on me as a person growing.

Ask Ai: give me 25 open end questions cause I dont know how ask open ended questions cause I dont know them... really...

Had Idk 2 relationships, and like 5-6 just "fun times with others" I could call it ie: Sex. Never raped, both me and the significant other wanted to do this. So I have like 7 wives total and divorced them all.

I have life experience using substances. I am currently free of all substances.

Single for a total of 8 to 9 years, live in my own place, have 2 cats, and fixing to start back working, been down for 2 months since getting fired ...

I was not in a good position anyway when I got fired and im so happy to be away from that lady. (I told her she reminded me of my mother who I love and I hate... I told my mother these things and I am just now going to start my journy hopefully reframing my mind, and relearning what it is to actually do more for oneself... in growing?? )

Yeah so anyway. None of my family has died yet expect my dad.

If I had a wife and we had children... I would allow them as much freedom as I possibly could. That would be my choice. I would desire to let them know about sex at the right time too because that is such a holy thing when 2 people become one, and you don't want them to go around ya know... not knowing the value of themselves.

The value of your child and their growth and understanding is something they need to know when they come into the world at least in my opinion. I did not get a lot of those affirmations nor teachings growing up. I just experinced it as a wild person growing up in my days with my mom.

It seems like if I would have had more like time with people affirming my worth I would have been more stable to even stay straight as far as the whole substance abuse thing because I got to the point where I didnt care very much, about my family, or my surroundings, or my friends except for those which who could get me to another plane of existence because I couldn't stand myself.
