Are you sure about the above? Do you have some support for it?St. Paul writes that we should pray for the dead. I don't know where it is, but he did say that in one of his letters. I don't know if that constitutes a second chance, but we believe souls go to purgatory and suffer great pains of purification and our prayers ease their suffering there. The Virgin Mary told the 3 seers at Fatima in 1917 that Jucinto would go to Purgatory until the end of the second coming. The other 2 were going straight to Heaven. That is proof enough for me.
Why would two go straight to heaven and one go to purgatory?
Also, what does "till the second coming of Christ" mean?
There is time in the afterlife?
Also, are you aware that the Catholic Church is not sure about how purgatory is.
We could read about it in the CCC but most priests are coming to believe that it's different...that it may last only a few seconds or that it's like a glass window through which one could see heaven but cannot go there.
No one I know believes it's a place of torment...this seems to be an old idea.
One priest told me there is ongoing revelation and we should not cling to old ideas.
I'm Protestant now, BTW.
