Yep, I've never understood the appeal to have large reptilian pets. My ex-girlfriend years ago wanted a Nile monitor lizard so I bought her one. That thing was vicious and dangerous. She eventually turned off the heat lamp so it couldn't digest it's food. I came home from being gone for a few months and found it dead in it's tank. She also had a Boa. I would walk by the tank at night and jump when I heard this loud "BOOM" just behind me. The snake would coil up and strike at me, hitting the plexiglass window.

She eventually turned off the heat lamp so it couldn't digest it's food. I came home from being gone for a few months and found it dead in it's tank. She also had a Boa. I would walk by the tank at night and jump when I heard this loud "BOOM" just behind me. The snake would coil up and strike at me, hitting the plexiglass window.

Many reptilian pets, including large ones make great pets. I have fifteen reptiles, five of them being snakes. Only one will get over 6 foot. I have owned a 9 1/2 foot boa constrictor. She was also sweet. She only bit me once, which was my fault. I reached in, touched her, she startled ad recoiled, so I pulled back and then went back in and she struck me. I have had large monitors before. I have a savannah monitor now. I want a white throat monitor.

Some reptiles, like your GIF above and your aforementioned Nile monitor, just have bad attitudes and to find one with a good one is hard to do. The white throat and its larger relative the black throat tend to lean more like puppy dog tame. Some pythons and boas just have mean attitudes, but most are docile. Bearded dragons are wonderful medium-sized lizards that seem to enjoy human interaction.

I also have nine tarantulas. These are more look but do not touch. I could handle one or two if I wanted to as they are docile as far as tarantulas go.

I am generally a dog person, my fiance is a cat person. However, reptiles are also a passion of mine. Started when I caught my first garter snake at age 7.

Lol! My late grandfather has a saying he passed down. "If it was a snake, it wouldve bit ya." Usually when you lost something but found it close.

He wouldve laughed at the thought of someone keeping an actual snake.

Poor thing. That's a hungry snake. That's why they're acting like that. Very sad.

The OP alligator pic, at least the little guy is in a harness. A collar would be mean.

She's got this all wrong. Everyone that ever lived in Florida knows the best alligator bait is poodle on a string. This is the cart before the horse scenario.

The Everglades is full of pythons. The blame has been pet owners who release the snakes into the Glades .....Now the truth ...

Before Hurricane Andrew hit Miami ...I did an awful lot of business with pet supply businesses along the edge of the Everglades. Go to the ocean, turn around and drive about five miles .....you are now in the Glades ..... Every pet shop in the country bought their animals from the businesses alog that corridor ...I sold metal for Bird breeders, Reptile breeders, Tropical Fish Breeders ...If it walked or tried to talk it came from those businesses. Andrew released all of that into the Glades and the Glades have never been the same since......The best story out of Andrew ....There was a fully restored B-17 and P-40 Lightnng sitting on the tarmac in Homestead AFB. each tethered to survive the sto,rm ....At some point the storm broke the tethers to the B-17 and actually flew it into the Gllades. It landed about ten miles in. The tethers to the P-40 broke, and flew the P-40 into the Glades .....the end of that trip was cartwheeling the Lightnig right through the middle of the B-17. Both planes were last seen in Kissemmee being restored at Fantasy of Flight ....

All I know is I wouldn't want to be a bee keeper in a hurricane. Flies are bad enough in the face riding a motor bike at 25 mph. Bees have that hard outer coating.
