I couldn’t understand why people were putting Gravy on their desserts in the US films until I worked out that we call it custard !
So what do you put on your dinners ( we put gravy ) ?
What’s it called in Australia ?
Rita

Gravy in the U.K. is lovely xxDesserts might get a strawberry or vanilla or chocolate sauce on them.
They get toppings otherwise like a spot of whipped cream.
Gravy is cheap...sauces are for nice dinners.
Gravy is about $4-20/gallon
Sauces start at around $130/gallon and go up from there.
Custard is something that goes in a pie or other dessert type item. It doesn't pour. It is firm. Creme Caramel is a custard...a flan.
Bread pudding is bread cubes in a custard/flan.
(Popular and pricey dessert here) it is usually served with some kind of sauce...bourbon or brown sugar and currents.
When we hear the word custard we think "pudding" . As in tapioca pudding.
We don't eat a lot of pudding here. Children do from tiny, single serve, portions that we put in their lunches along with a sandwich and processed dried fruit snacks. But most adults don't eat the children's food.
Gravy in the U.K. is lovely xx
Our custard is pourable , lovely with apple pie or crumble
Pudding in the U.K. would apply generally to anything sweet after a meal, a dessert, but could also mean rice pudding. Tapioca would just be called tapioca.
Creame caramel would just be called by it’s name as well.
What you describe as custard sounds like our blamanche !
srawberry, chocolate sauce ect would go on ice cream

Lol I have no idea what a Fern Bar or Fazoli Is !I'm still somewhat puzzled by the Curry House thing y'all got going on.
Is it the equivalent of a Fern Bar? Or maybe a Fazoli...
UK preferences are really confusing to me...I haven't been but keep hearing about them.

A curry house is just a place you go and eat curry in, or have a take away. Indian Curry, surely you have Curry and rice over in the US ?
You have Chinese take away, well this is the same but for Indian food
