When I was a member of the Gideons many years ago I'd get these testimony books that contained nothing but testimonys of people that had gotten saved by reading the Bible. No denominations, no outside influences, the undiluted word of God and lives changed through it's eternal power .

A Bible distribution was being made in a city of Egypt many years ago at a time when Christians could do such a thing. This Bible distribution was in what we would call an elementary school for young children who were for the majority, Muslim.

The bibles were given out and at recess the exuberant kids rushed outside to play. It happened to be a very windy day and one of the young children began to tear pages from the small new testament and release them into the wind that carried them over the wall surrounding the school yard. I'm certain the child had been warned against the Christians.

Out on the street a candy vendor pushed his cart beside that same wall hawking his home made candies. The gusting wind began to blow small pieces of paper past him. Always needing paper with which to wrap the candy he began to hastily snatch this bounty brought by the wind. With a handful of the small sheets he began to wrap more of his sugary wares.

On down the street a passerby stopped and bought a piece or two of candy and began to hastily tear off the wrapper and throw it away. A shred of one of the very sticky pieces of paper clung to his finger and he was trying to scrape it off. It clung on stubbornly and looking at it closer he saw that there was text on it.

It was very small but seemed to stand out as he attempted to read it. There was a single word. ETERNITY.

Gripped at the gravity of that solitary printed word he looked back toward where the candy vendor had been. Practically running back in the direction he'd come from he soon found the man and demanded to know where the mysterious paper had come from. After finding it had came over that wall he went inside the school and discovered the story of the Bible distribution. Now he learned that the Bible distribution had originated at a Christian church in the city. Going there he discussed this gripping word eternity with the pastor. He was instructed in the gospel and the way of salvation in Jesus Christ the savior and there made his commitment to God.

The power and anointing of God contained in a single heart gripping word. Eternity. It doesn't take chapters of Bible text to move a heart. Only one of the all powerful words of God is required to move a heart to Him. If there were but a single letter and the Lord chose to save through if He could.

God can do ANYTHING. Though I've been a Christian for almost 41 years I know so little about him. A pot simply does not have the capacity to comprehend the potter. We can trust all to Him.

The peon and the Caballero

Danny Ost was an independent missionary to Mexico. I heard him speak many many years ago when he spoke at a gathering Little Rock. This is one story he told. He had a radio broadcast in Mexico where he preached the word of God. Danny radiated humility. He was dressed in a suit that was obviously aged. He was no slick talking TV preacher. He said that he'd been jailed in Mexico city for preaching the gospel. He laughed as he told how unapostolic he felt in that cell.

While back in America he saw the word of faith preachers, the seed faith preachers. The preachers with jet planes and huge estates and 50 room mansions. My wife remarked how Danny's suit pants were too short for him. He was dressed nice but he was not about money at all. He said that he asked God about these men, these preachers and the Lord told him that he was not to be concerned about them. Just to do what he was shown and leave these to God.

In his ministry in Mexico city he said that he'd have to fight back tears when he stood before a room filled with converts to Jesus. Former prostitutes, addicts, thieves, drunks, criminals with big open hungry eyes stared at him awaiting spiritual food from the Lord.

Listening to one of Danny's broadcasts one day was a poor field worker that was sick abed and dying. He'd been a flagger for a crop duster plane that sprayed chemicals on the crops. After being drenched in toxic chemicals from the plane his lungs were severely damaged and he could no longer breathe, he could no longer work. He was lying in bed trying to breathe and listening to the radio when he heard Danny's message. Danny asked all who were sick to just place their hands on the radio in faith as he prayed for them. There was nothing supernatural about the radio it was a simple act of faith. The sickly peon raised up enough to put his hands on his radio and as he did he joined in Danny's prayer for salvation and healing and was instantly healed. His lungs were suddenly no longer clogged. His coughing spasms were gone. Truly Jesus christ had touched this hopeless man and made him whole and forgiven his sin!

Danny then requested that all who had received Jesus as their savior go to a local Christian church and give testimony of their salvation to the pastor there. Obediently the healed man went rejoicing to a church and told his story to the pastor. Rejoicing with him the pastor asked him to hand out some Christian gospel tracts to that he had given him. After he gave them out he was to come back and they'd discuss his baptism.

Going forth to the streets and byways the joyfully saved and healed man gave the testimony to all that would listen. He would tell the story of how God had saved him and then healed him again and again.

He was walking beside a field when he saw a mounted rider approaching. The rider was obviously wealthy. A dark highly decorated vest and large Sombrero was only part of his expensive clothing. A silver mounted revolver hung from his hip. Black pantaloons with silver Conchos down each leg. The black stallion he was riding had a silver mounted saddle and was something to see. Not a man that such a peon of low class would ordinarily think of approaching. But the anointing of God moved him to boldness.

Hailing the aristocratic rider he handed him a tract and began his story. With a deep frown the rider tore the tract into shreds and tossed it into the air. He drew his gun, cocked the hammer and pointed it at the frozen in fear new Christian. He began to pull the trigger.

In all his violent anger his silver spurs dug into the spirited horse which immediately reared up on his hind legs. As this happened the enraged rich man pulled the trigger intending to shoot the offending good for nothing peon.

The trigger had been pulled but there was no loud bang. All was silent save for the muted click of the hammer. Looking down at his weapon the man saw a piece of the tract he had thrown into the air had fallen between the hammer and the firing pin as it fell to fire.

Both men stared at this and began to weep. They knew it was a miracle and that God had stopped a murder. The peon poured out his testimony as the broken rich man asked forgiveness of him and of God. The man was led to the Lord and the peon gave him some of his tracts. They went off together marveling that the hand of God had touched both of them.

This is the story as brother Danny told it.
