Is possession possible? Rare? Common?

Does bring in an exorcist rid a person of possession? Is a rite of exocism necessary? Can anyone perform an exocism?

Are famous exorcists like Father Armouth or Bob Larson, legit?

Aspen, I am not familiar with Farther Armouth or Bob Larson. But oddly, amoung the verses I printed out to study this morning this passage was in them. Don't know if it helps but since I was staring at it when you posted your thread, decided to share it. I am sure you are familiar with the passage:

Acts 19:13-20
[13] Then certain of the vagabond Jews, exorcists, took upon them to call over them which had evil spirits the name of the Lord Jesus, saying, We adjure you by Jesus whom Paul preacheth. [14] And there were seven sons of one Sceva, a Jew, and chief of the priests, which did so. [15] And the evil spirit answered and said, Jesus I know, and Paul I know; but who are ye? [16] And the man in whom the evil spirit was leaped on them, and overcame them, and prevailed against them, so that they fled out of that house naked and wounded.

The evil spirit leapt on them and stripped them of their cover so that they ran naked and wounded.

[17] And this was known to all the Jews and Greeks also dwelling at Ephesus; and fear fell on them all, and the name of the Lord Jesus was magnified. [18] And many that believed came, and confessed, and shewed their deeds.

What deeds? Evil deeds done in darkness brought out into the light for all to see? A glimpse of the truth shouted from the rooftop?

[19] Many of them also which used curious arts brought their books together, and burned them before all men : and they counted the price of them, and found it fifty thousand pieces of silver. [20] So mightily grew the word of God and prevailed.

I don't know much about evil spirits or possessions but it is obvious they only come out by one name. Christ. I would suggest if someone uses the name, a name that is an all-consuming fire, be certain He is truly there to consume the evil brought out.

Why ask if it is possible? Don't you believe the Bible. Of course it occurs. It occurs far more then people want to believe. Doctors and scientists have developed medical and professional names other than demon possession, that are more accepting amongst the unbelievers.

Every believer has the authority and the power of God behind them to exercise demons. But...that believer better know it. His faith needs to be at a place where he comes knowing that God is with him and will cast out such a demon. And any believer who steps out in this better have a group of Christians praying and fasting for this.
