Yeah, but Christ had already told them to go to the nations, so there really is a question as to how much of that was really God's will versus Peter's potential lack of insight into the ramifications of Christ's death and resurrection. Sure, Peter understood you could get forgiveness of sins if you believe and confess Christ, and get baptized, and he knew you receive the gift of the Spirit, but he didn't understand he wasn't obligated to keep the dietary law, and he didn't understand Gentiles could be saved. He didn't understand all that Christ's death and resurrection had accomplished. He was simultaneously a leader who had to be respected and obeyed, and yet was also without full understanding of his own mission and message, and was still in the process of learning.The first Christians are almost exclusively Jews. I think Luke was a gentile, but in the beginning they were pretty much just Jews getting born again.
