The first Christians are almost exclusively Jews. I think Luke was a gentile, but in the beginning they were pretty much just Jews getting born again.
Yeah, but Christ had already told them to go to the nations, so there really is a question as to how much of that was really God's will versus Peter's potential lack of insight into the ramifications of Christ's death and resurrection. Sure, Peter understood you could get forgiveness of sins if you believe and confess Christ, and get baptized, and he knew you receive the gift of the Spirit, but he didn't understand he wasn't obligated to keep the dietary law, and he didn't understand Gentiles could be saved. He didn't understand all that Christ's death and resurrection had accomplished. He was simultaneously a leader who had to be respected and obeyed, and yet was also without full understanding of his own mission and message, and was still in the process of learning.

Well after the temple was destroyed and Israel was trodden down by gentiles... they certainly dispersed after that!

Maybe Israel being destroyed was two fold... for rejecting the Lord and to make them disperse.

Well, part of my point was that we can see how God may deal with us in our lives by the example of how He dealt with Peter--He is with us, He loves us, He accepts us, even knowing our ignorance, and even in our ignorance we are not necessarily offensive in doing what we believe is correct.

Also, it was a potential explanation for why John's Gospel apparently (not necessarily--and perhaps not even substantively ("maybe it's just a different emphasis" is another, less controversial, possibility)) differs--he had more time to be corrected.

I'd say we have even more responsibility for following the Truth of God's Word simply because we have all that God wants mankind to know in print in the Bible which gives us an advantage over those guys as existing scripture was in pieces and most of the New Testament had not even been written yet.

I don't see where us people living in modern times have much excuse before the Lord to know and follow His will seeing we have it all conveniently packaged up in one Book not to mention we can look up the original text as well... AND considering we have the Holy Ghost that Jesus said would lead us in to ALL Truth (John 16:13)
