Copied from “Walk with God” on X:

“U.S. goalkeeper Matt Freese says his faith in God has been the driving force behind both his soccer career and personal growth. After making history as the first active MLS goalkeeper to start a World Cup match for the United States, Freese emphasized that his confidence comes from trusting God, often reminding himself, “God’s got me.”

“A lifelong Catholic, Freese has remained committed to attending Mass, studying the Bible, and prioritizing time in Scripture despite the demands of professional soccer. He said his faith became especially important during challenging seasons early in his career, when limited playing time and the COVID-19 shutdown tested his perspective and helped him rediscover his passion for the game.

“Reflecting on his journey, Freese believes God has used both successes and setbacks to teach him valuable lessons about perseverance, teamwork, selflessness, and sacrifice. He expressed gratitude for the opportunities God has given him and sees his soccer career as part of a larger spiritual journey.”

A first: the referee “collapsed” late in the second half with a severe leg cramp. Took ~5 minutes before he could continue and finish the game

Haha it's not a first. I've seen plenty of ref's get injured. They run about 11kms a match

USA had a bit of luck for both goals; Australia not so fortunate

USA created more chances and had most of the ball. Australia were too defensive and just parked the bus, especially on the first half.
America deserved the win

@amigo de christo
So this is the reason why I see Swiss flags everywhere I go.
If everyone that hung a flag on their house and car had bible scriptures flags up instead and reminding people of the dire need to believe in Jesus, then I wouldn’t ever get fed up with seeing that.

That's good to know. I would love to see World Cup fans from other countries have a positive experience while visiting the US.

World Cup fans fall in love with American culture, comfort food classics

Now that's more like it and speaking of comfort food, World Cup fans who come to Kansas City need to try their BBQ. Its the best!

Try the burnt ends and the jalapeño sausage.

We're down to the round of 32.
This is when the world cup really begins.
All group matches mean nothing now.
This is knock-out football.
Sudden death.
All matches must be decided.
Extra time and penalty shoot-out if required.

My goodness gracious me...
France were sooooo good against Sweden.
That was some beautiful football.
They're firm favourites after that tremendous performance. They'll be hard to beat

Hello fellow Adelaidean
Agreed, what a team.

After watching Spain today, they are my second favorites.
Portugal/Croatia was another great match.

Hi there. I'm actually from Melbourne, born and raised. Just living in Adelaide at the moment, travelling and working around Australia, it's a cool city.

France and Spain look good, so do Argentina and Brasil but remember, they haven't played any good teams yet and anything can still happen on the day.

I have a Portuguese background so that match against Croatia was a stressful one for me. I hold some hope that Portugal can beat Spain next round and go all the way, but need to play very well.

Aussies play Egypt tonight. I'm hoping they can win that match and progress to the round of 16. We'll see

I have a lot of neighbors from Mexico and Guatemala. Whenever their teams score they all scream like someone is murdering them! LOL It happened a couple of times recently and it's so sudden, I nearly jumped out of my chair.

Another time I was walking past one of their open doors... suddenly they all started screaming and I thought I would lose my hearing. And then the neighbors at the other end were screaming too. After that I wished their teams wouldn't win anymore... LOL Don't tell them though! LOL

Norway were impressive against Brazil, and the better team.

England took precise advantage of Mexico’s lapses; Mexico had ample opportunities to tie and even win. Heartbreaking to lose at home.

Europe 2, New World zero.

Balogun plays today, despite the “mandatory” one-game suspension for a send-off. Since the severity of the foul was so controversial, the waiver makes sense. (His response immediately after the game was classy.)

Blessings.

Thanks to Trump and the corrupt FIFA.

Good luck anyway.

Good luck anyway.
Let’s review the video and the referee team decision to review the play in slow motion. Can we assume you have seen both?

Now: per the FIFA Laws of the Game, under Fouls and Misconduct, a send-off is called when:

“A tackle or challenge that endangers the safety of an opponent or uses
excessive force or brutality must be sanctioned as serious foul play.

“Any player who lunges at an opponent in challenging for the ball from the
front, from the side or from behind using one or both legs, with excess.”

Well, it clearly was not the second paragraph, so it must be the first. The original video shows a fair challenge, with it ending by the USA player collapsing on his opponent. In slow motion, the USA‘s cleats came down on the ankle of his opponent. The review team stated it must be a send-off.

That is not the end of the story: after each game, a Disciplinary Committee reviews all send-offs (true for all legitimate league play, everywhere). Here the FIFA DC reflexively added a standard one-game suspension; did the foul truly warrant a one-game suspension?

Peace.

Fifa has been corrupt for years.
The previous head of Fifa was fired because of corruption.
The present Fifa head (14 to 16 Millions/year) should be fired as well.
As soon as big amounts of money are involved corruption sticks up it ugly head.
