As it was in the days of Naoh
Our Master was most skilful in bringing historical events into the foreground. He was able to foretell significant future events by bringing together both past and present, and past and future. His knowledge of the scriptures both of the coming kingdom and the events are profound.
Considers these words in Matt 24:37:
[sup]Matt 24:37[/sup]But as the days of Noe were, so shall also the coming of the Son of man be. [sup]38[/sup]For as in the days that were before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noe entered into the ark, [sup]39[/sup]And knew not until the flood came, and took them all away; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.
The connection between our time and the time of Noah can be very confronting especially when we consider their similarities. We will find that both generations had & have diminished the importance of the God’s divine principals and as such were judged unworthy of salvation.
We find then, the same “corruption” which is in the world through lust (2 Pet 1:4), and its full impact on this society is causing people to lose sight of their God and his plan and purpose with the Earth. In Noah’s time people were destroyed because their imagination (their intentions and motives) were earthly, sensual and devilish (James 3:15). The struggle between flesh and spirit was wearing out the children of God, and along with the absence of divine teachings they were brought into condemnation, as will ours.
Consider the facts of Noahs day with ours:
For this is the commandment that ye heard from the beginning, that we should love one another. Not as Cain, who was of that wicked one (flesh = to cause pain and trouble), and slew his brother (Matt 15:19). And wherefore slew he him? Because his own works were evil, and his brother’s righteous. 1 John 3:11,12
Cain performed works of the flesh = Gal 5:19
Able performed works of the Sprit = Gal 5:16,17, 22
Other than bringing about the death of his brother, there were many other works, which he did. It’s not until we go back and see the beginnings of this evil society that we begin to understand why God destroyed the then known world.
[sup]Gen 4:17[/sup]And Cain knew his wife; and she conceived, and bare Enoch: and he builded a city (this is poor translation, better read “he became the builder of a city”).
So Cain built the first city, this is coming from a man who was a liar and a murderer, one who deceived himself, and left the fellowship of God from the garden, to become a wanderer and vagabond in the earth.
Following the linage of Cain we read in Gen 4.
Gen 4:21,22 we find a number of interesting facts, we see Lamech unashamedly referring to his many wives (breaking the creation law of marriage in Gen 2:24). And in the previous verse we see the establishment of industry and commerce, the use of making tools and instruments of warfare, for which Lamech was most proud, skills he obviously encouraged in his prominent family.
Due to their extended life spans they were able to work on projects of science and arts, which over some 1600 years produced a vicious and immoral metropolitan society. This society was based upon a fleshly pride which if you read with me Gen 4:23 we see Lamech most proud of the many aspects of his corrupt family, epitomised in these words…
[sup]Gen 4:23[/sup]And Lamech said unto his wives, Adah and Zillah, Hear my voice; ye wives of Lamech, hearken unto my speech: for I have slain a man to my wounding, and a young man to my hurt. [sup]24[/sup]If Cain shall be avenged sevenfold, truly Lamech seventy and sevenfold. A threat dear readers– "hurt me and you will die by my hand" Lamech does not require God for protection; vengeance is not of the Lord, but of Lamech!! How wrong he was.
As this community grew and got larger we find when we jump over to…Gen 6
The two camps (Seth & Cain), the seed of the woman (Seth) and the seed of the serpent (Cain) were merging. You know the church of that day had degenerated to the extent that the character of Cain (means a spear), being in the mind of the serpent, had become desirable to the children of Seth. The enmity or hatred which God had placed between the two seeds (lineages) had almost merged. Gen 3:15
The very enmity God placed between these two modes of thinking had almost deminished because many had lost thier faith Luke 12:37; Luke 18:8
[sup]Gen 6:4[/sup] when the sons of God (Seth's camp) came in unto the daughters of men (Cain),
What caused these two seeds / camps to merge? Somehow their separateness from evil was lost. To understand what took place here we must understand this fundamental principle.
The moment sin entered the world, mankind experienced something which if left to itself would destroy him. That is, our inability to understand that what God says, he actually means! Unfortunately this thinking is engrained in human nature. Every generation believes they can do better than God, thankfully however, through Gods Judgments mankind realises with great casualties, God is right every time. Even in the begining "thou shalt surely die"...God meant what He said and yes they died and to this day they sleep in the dust of the earth. Seths lineage had forgotten Gods principles should keep them seperate from the world...but did they listen?
Gen 6:4 and they (Seth) bare children to them (Cain), the same became mighty men which were of old, men of renown “name”.
The children considered themselves to be very important, probably with honorable positions within these cities. (Note Korah in Numbers 16:2 is spoken with exactly the same word)
Through breaking the teaching of separateness they took wives which they chose and they produced ungodly offspring, through disregarding His counsel their end was sealed.
What caused the ungodly and the godly to come together and marry?
Doubtless those professing believers of God had become so relaxed about their faith they lost an understanding of God. 2 Cor 6:14 is one such passage which speaks of separateness from this world. When Christians become liberal and move away from these divine boundaries, trouble is certainly crouching at the door Gen 4:7. Clearly for Cain the requirements of sacrifice and offering become a burden to him. He desired a freedom from God where he could fulfill his lusts and passions. Out of this Flesh mixed with Spirit comes a Spirit of Liberalism which is abhorrent to God Matt 6:23 ...and it is certainly in the Churches of the World today.
Cain’s Camp - Satisfy's its fleshly desires in all its living
Seth’s Camp - Too busy to hear Gods Word due to eating, drinking and marrying etc.
And what did they produce?
High-minded proud arrogant Offspring! Gen 6:4
What would God do with a world full of high minded people? Those who with a high hand willfuly transgress His commands? Num 15:30
