If OT saints didn't live the law would they have been lost ? If they did would they be saved ?
“Knowing this, that the law is not made for a righteous man, but for the lawless and disobedient, for the ungodly and for sinners, for unholy and profane, for murderers of fathers and murderers of mothers, for manslayers, For whoremongers, for them that defile themselves with mankind, for menstealers, for liars, for perjured persons, and if there be any other thing that is contrary to sound doctrine;” (1 Timothy 1:9–10) (KJV 1900)

“Therefore by the deeds of the law there shall no flesh be justified in his sight: for by the law is the knowledge of sin.” (Romans 3:20) (KJV 1900)

The law forced wicked people to act like they loved God and others for national security purposes. But it did not save. God saved only believers by grace, apart from the works of the law. Hebrews 11 lists many believers whom God saved in OT times.

Listening to a sermon last night. Old Testament law equals you will, you will, you will= fail. New Testament faith= I will, I will, I will, believe!

I am talking about before Jesus came. Those that had the ten commandments and Laws under Moses that requires the sacrificial forgiveness. If a person refuses to do them were they lost? If a person kept them did it saved them from the wrath of God ?
The laws was God's words to get the people to live right and if they did not follow the instruction they then was punished, even death.
Romans 7:12 (KJV)
12 Wherefore the law is holy, and the commandment holy, and just, and good.

The Law was also a way for get forgiveness and how to worship God. The Temple laws and sacrificial laws that was required in worship in
connection with God. When they ignore them that got into trouble with their life. Which may effect whether they were saved to get a resurrection.
Yes they must have faith but they had to hold to the laws.
I don't think they were just petty laws.
Psalm 19:7 (KJV)
7 The law of the LORD is perfect, converting the soul: the testimony of the LORD is sure, making wise the simple.
So did the laws convert people, even the Gentiles could come in under the laws.

So just to say the laws was good and it did put them in good standing with God that he reward them not to die eternally.
He would give them a resurrection so they could get eternal life.
Yes the law written down on paper was weak and could not life.

We have a much better way than the OT, now we have access to eternal life and not have to die.
Words of God brings faith, faith will bring grace. Now we must live by faith in the word of God which is his commandments.
Was that not part of the agreement when we accepted God ?

Yes the law could not give life, but if refuses, you could loose life.

All perished unless born again. The wicked Jews sacrificed to idols they called by God's name.

The book of Galatians is a excellent epistle to answer a lot of your questions

We have free will, but it only reacts to the reasons we base our choices on, that God uses to control us.
