Early in the 1930s Sinclair Lewis wrote a novel called It Can't Happen Here in which he told of the takeover of the US government by a Fascist party. What happened in the novel didn't happen here but that doesn't mean it couldn't some time in the future.
If Trump runs out of his own government forces, I wonder if Putin could help him restore law and order by sending in Russian soldiers without insignias as he did in Crimea? Putin could quietly help Trump, and who would know since the American ones Trump is using also aren't wearing insignias?
Hey, keeping the Russian forces in the US to maintain law and order might help just in case there are riots after the election. Trump could have another four years in office. Maybe he could get the Constitution changed if Putin sent enough soldiers. Then Trump could stay in office permanently. And everyone lived happily ever after. . . .

I suppose the Russians could quietly murder those American citizens that they deem politically dangerous to Trump. They could also continue in their campaign of subverting American elections as they have previously done in 2016. I don't think that Russian troops would ever be sent into America without Trump first declaring martial law, suspending habeas corpus, and suspending elections. Trump has the problem that there is not enough civil disorder in the country for him to plausibly do these things; and, he has to worry that this course of action will even further erode his political base. Trump has no really good options. But given his lack of character, he could try something foolish at some point.
Yes, if he could obtain his fetid, squalid dictatorship. And no doubt he'd be saying to his followers that God, indeed, has come again to America to those who believe that he's "anointed" by God.

Not many people know that when Roosevelt was elected, some conservative republicans, abetted by a few very wealthy people, began to plan a military takeover. They made the mistake of seeking out the wrong officer to do it for them. Retired Marine Corps General Smedley Butler was approached by a representative of the plotters and offered the leadership of the coup. Butler was a popular, conservative, and very capable officer who was offered the new position of "Secretary of General Affairs" when coup succeeded. Roosevelt would then be relegated to a figurehead position,and Butler was to become essentially the dictator of the United States.
The whole thing fell apart when Butler promptly reported it all to the authorities. There were hurried denials, and the republican press tried to suppress the whole affair.

It came pretty close to success; the backup plan was to ask General Douglas MacArthur, whose political leanings included a larger role for military officers in governing America.
There's not enough disorder to justify inviting Russian troops? Then create it. I'm sure Putin could send in some apparatchiks. Perhaps he already has. Perhaps they're coordinating with BLM and other groups to ratchet up the unrest. A few well trained appartchiks should be able to keep American protesters wound up and angry.
The protests are becoming more violent, especially later on in the night after most of the peaceful protesters go home. Protesters set a courthouse on fire. They're carrying guns now. Trump's sending in anonymous federal agents seems to have enraged them, so they could easily be manipulated by appartchiks to raise the level of violence. Trump may be cleverer than many suppose. His sending in anonymous agents could have been intended to provoke the protesters so he would have an excuse to resort to even more extreme measures -- if so, it worked.
On the other hand, Trump's resorting to oppressive measures was predictable. Perhaps Putin was counting on Trump reacting the way he did. Putin could be playing Trump to create turmoil in the USA without Trump knowing it.
I doubt there would be a need for Russian troops if things keep getting worse since then Trump could justify declaring martial law and the American military would go along with him. While various scenarios are possible, I rather think Trump may be hoping for increased violence on the streets since he could play savior of the nation. Putin could have restricted Russian activity to propaganda on the internet.
CHOOSE!!! Law and order or burn the court house and throw bricks at law officers and riot, loot and burn!!!

I notice violence and disorder increased after he sent secret police into Portland. He backed off in Philadelphia, after authorities said they would arrest any federal trooper who broke the law.
On Trump's watch, crime and disorder have been rising for years, after decades of decline. He's in over his head. This is why Americans want him out.
