GOOD NEWS re: PROPITIATION & EXPIATION

No one needs to use appeasement, atonement, expiation, propitiation, remission, reparation, or satisfaction,
to talk about Christ’s work / accomplishments. Scripture says simply: “Christ died for us”.

KJV wrongly translates G2643 in Rom.5:11 as atonement
- KJV perplexingly translates G2434/35 [Rom.3:25; 1Jn.2:2; 4:10] as propitiation
- RSV perplexingly translates G2434/35 [Rom.3:25; 1Jn.2:2; 4:10; Heb.2:17] as expiation
- NASB perplexingly translates G2434/35 [Rom.3:25; 1Jn.2:2; 4:10; Heb.2:17] as propitiation

Above verses a 2nd time ~ Variants of Forgive fit much better than Merciful, Propitiation, Mercy Seat, & Forbid, to reconcile & convey the meaning of G2433-36, in conjunction with Heb.8:12 quoting Jer.31:24.

Lk.18:13 God, be G2433-FORGIVENESS (or FORGIVING) to me, the sinner
Heb.2:17 merciful & faithful high priest to make G2433-FORGIVENESS for the sins of the people

1Jn.2:2 He Himself is (the) G2434-FORGIVER for our sins
1Jn.4:10 He loved us & sent His Son to be (the) G2434-FORGIVER for our sins

Above verses a 3rd time ~ Variants of PARDON also fit extremely well to the English ear.

Lk.18:13 God, be PARDONING (friendly, gracious, favourable, forgiving, merciful) to me

Those who stick with propitiation inherit ambiguity & confusion, & many rabbit-trails attempting to give “an answer to every man that asketh you a reason” (1Pe.3:15). ~ On the other hand, the simplicity & power of forgive, mercy & pardon lets everyone enter into freedom & joy in our victorious Lord Jesus Christ.
