Growing in Christ is growing in His purity of heart and life. Growing in sin to become less sinful, is not the pure growth of Christ in us.

Let no man beguile you of your reward in a voluntary humility and worshipping of angels, intruding into those things which he hath not seen, vainly puffed up by his fleshly mind, holding the Head, from which all the body by joints and bands having nourishment ministered, and knit together, grows with the growth of God.

Growing in Christ is with the growth of God in us. God does no grow in any man in sin nor with sin.

As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby:

Newborn babes of God in Christ Jesus are now pure as God in Christ Jesus. They therefore only grow without sin by the pure and sinless word of Jesus Christ, in whom is no sin.

Out of the same mouth proceedeth blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not so to be. Doth a fountain send forth at the same place sweet water and bitter?

Growth in Christ Jesus is sweet water increasing from the sweet well of pure water. It is not bitter water decreasing from bitter well of sin.

Nor does the sweet water of Christ grow from the unrepented waters of sinful religion.

The pure religion of Jesus Christ is to be first made pure in heart and life as He is, and then have power to grow in His pure grace. and keep ourselves unspotted from the world.

Christian sinners growing in sin only to become less sinful, is the unrepented religion of man's Christianity.

Ye therefore, beloved, seeing ye know these things before, beware lest ye also, being led away with the error of the wicked, fall from your own stedfastness. But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and for ever. Amen.

Neither Jesus Christ nor His grace is sinful nor having any sin at all, and so no man with unrepented sin grows in His sinless grace.

As ye have therefore received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk ye in him:

No man receives Christ in lust and sin, and so no man walks and grows in Him with lust and sin of Satan.

Growing in and with sin, is not the pure growth of God in Christ Jesus.
