Joz 24:2 And Joshua said to all the people, “Thus says the LORD, the God of Israel, ‘Long ago, your fathers lived beyond the Euphrates, Terah, the father of Abraham and of Nahor; and they served other gods.
Yes Terah, Abraham’s father was a worshipper of other gods, and perhaps Abraham was raised in that environment, but his life overlapped Shem’s by 150 years, so a man of his caliber would have stood out in his time. When God spoke, Abraham obeyed, not like a pagan devotee of other gods, but as a worshipper of the true God....Shem’s God.

They were told :

Dan 12:2 And many of those who sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake, some to everlasting life, and some to shame and everlasting contempt.
Daniel speaks of the resurrection....which is something the Jews were taught by their Scripture.
“Sleeping in death” is repeated throughout the Bible. Even Jesus said that his friend Lazarus was “sleeping”. (John 11:11-14)
Many who want to believe satan’s lie, that ‘you don’t really die’, will fight against that notion. But the ‘awakening’ that Daniel spike about was a future resurrection, not an instant continuation of life somewhere else. There is no “heaven or hell” scenario as opposite destinations for humans in the Bible...only everlasting life or everlasting death. What more is necessary?

Well of course you can look at it that way, as you can believe Jonah lived three days in a big fish
The exchange between you two is rather comical.....
Who caused the fish to swallow Jonah? Who preserved him alive in that environment (that would have spelled death to any other mortal human). He was there as a punishment for his disobedience. If God had wanted him dead, he would have been consumed by the digestive juices of the sea creature that swallowed him.

It was a confinement that Jesus used to illustrate the confinement that he experienced in his tomb. For three days, Jesus did not go anywhere. He was not resurrected (returned to life) until the third day.
Taken from the Jewish perspective, they understood what a resurrection meant....Christendom has no idea since they adopted belief in an “immortal soul”. There is no such thing in the Bible.

The dead are dead....’sleeping’ peacefully, unaware of anything going on in this world. I sometimes envy them.
They are certainly NOT walking around invisibly among us on this earth. What an odd scenario! Where will I find that in the Bible?
The Jews were forbidden to “enquire of the dead” because of this pagan idea that the dead are still living.
Demons can impersonate the dead and keep this lie going on indefinitely for those taken in by it...laughing at their gullibility.

Wasn't it a temporal grave, he said he was in the realm of the dead
No, it was a period of confinement.....there is no “realm of the dead”......the Jewish Tanakh translates ”Sheol” as “the grave”. The place where we all ultimately end up. (Eccl 9:10) It is devoid of consciousness.

Because there is no immortal soul that leaves the body, there is no place for these “souls” to go. A soul is not a spirit....a soul is entirely mortal. (Ezekiel 18:4) Nowhere in the Bible is a soul described as a disembodied spirit.

Well Im glad I've given you a smile with my comment. The KJV says Jonah was in hell, just as it says that's where Jesus soul was. You are welcome to keep posting to me, however, your attempts to overturn the plain words of the bible with your reasoning won't change my mind

That is rather sad sbg....because the “plain words” of the Bible have been mistranslated for centuries.
There is no such word or concept of “hell” in the Bible. There are a few words that are translated as ”hell” but none of them are places of eternal conscious torment in flames.

Please do some research on the two most common mistranslations and see what they mean in their original language. “Hades” and “Gehenna” are both translated as “hell”.....but they have two entirely different meanings....and are two entirely different destinations. Ask then....”what is the lake of fire”?

BTW
If all belief is salvific, as you stated, why did the leaders of the NT church allow as believers people who insisted gentiles should be circumcised and required to obey the law of Moses AND Paul who said those who circumcised were mutilators of the flesh? And why did Paul state you can take whichever view you like as to one day being more sacred than another or treating every day alike, alongside abstaining or eating the levitical unclean foods?
