My Husband: I choose to work this hard so your life can be easier.

Me: That means I need to obsess over housework and frugality to make up for not having an income, right?

Him: I literally just like when you relax.

Me: This is hard for me to understand.

Husband: Do you want our kids to stress about bills?

Me: No.

Husband: That's how I feel about you.

My wife recently asked me to confirm that once we sell the house next year and move to be near my daughter that she won't have to work outside the home anymore after 47 years.

Even before all that, she couldn't understand why I told her throughout the marriage that I don't want her working that hard at home either. Just rest in the blessings God has provided, including having a husband, children and grandchildren who can do more of the heavy lifting.

Good! Wrangler, I can say this:

I was raised to think masculinely and earn my value. I thought I had to get a degree and a full time career even though I didn't truly want those things. The idea of a man just wanting me to enjoy life and relax didn't make sense to me because I thought I had to earn it.

But a woman's value is innate. We are life bearers. Our value is not in stressing out as much as men but being a source of peace, fun, levity, and turning survival into something better.

I've decided not to have more than three major household tasks on my list per day. I can go overboard obsessing about cleaning but I also need to have fun and enjoy myself so I can have a good countenance when my husband comes home from work.

Whimsy, fun, and enjoyment are important too.

I love scrapbooking, watching shows, movies, and reading for fun.

So far, it's been a great relief to enjoy life more and work at a slower pace.

Unfortunately almost every woman I know is anxious so Im figuring out slowly how to be more carefree and whimsical. It feels wrong at first like I should feel guilty about it. But it's the very thing that's enjoyable and that my husband asked for.

Sometimes the issue is how we approach homemaking. We should be less like contracted employees on call at all times and more like lilies of the field. If the main goal of homemaking is a peaceful and fun atmosphere we should also prioritize doing things that bring us peace and whimsy so we can provide that and not be stressed about our duties all the time.

I definitely have to be humble and realize that while I may want to do a lot of different things in the home which are good, it is not good for me to try do all of them at once. I can only focus on a few things at a time, no matter what my intentions are. Im a woman with great limitations but there is liberty in remembering that.

Cleaning and running a home can become drudgery without taking time for whimsy. Eating off a special vintage plate, lighting a candle, putting pretty flowers in a vase are not essential but that's the point. They remind us that we can do more than just survive in the world. Whimsy, beauty, thoughtfulness, and creating little traditions are all things that add vitality to life and make it special.

someone had a birthday a few days back . i did remember . but i could not find you on that day to remind you .
Time flies . we got another li ttle birthday sneaking up in nov too . And perhaps , LORD willing
maybe another sibling in the days ahead . or not . depends upon the LORD

Well if we invest in the things pleasing to GOD , it will be a place of pure delight all right .
IN all we do , in all we say let it honor the Glorious LORD . The LORD will rejoice the reigns

It's such a wise observation. As a man, I focus on structure, what is needed for survival. I love it when my wife takes the foundation I built for our survival and makes the house a home with the touches you cited, personalizing provision.

Sadly, today's feminists think they are above making the world a better place in this quintessential feminine way. They have become husbands, thinking of themselves only as boss babes, always complaining about something or other thinking they are so smart but they are fools, tearing down their house with their own hands. Then they wonder where have all the good men gone. Good men tend not to want to be wives. I think I'll start a thread on that ... My soon to be ex-wife acted too often with masculine energy, turning me off like you can't believe. I scolded her saying that someone in this marriage has to be the wife and it is not going to be me.
