Hello this is my first post
I have a question that has been weighing on my heart. I was baptized several years ago, but I recently learned that the pastor who baptized me was later convicted of sexually assaulting a minor. This has left me wondering whether my baptism is still valid in God's eyes or if I should be baptized again.
I understand that baptism is ultimately about my faith in Jesus Christ and my relationship with Him, but knowing what happened has caused me to struggle with this. I would appreciate any biblical guidance or advice you can offer.
Thank you for taking the time to read my email. I look forward to hearing your thoughts.
God bless,

I have yet to meet a sinless "pastor." Forgive the pastor. And your baptism was between you and God - not between you and the pastor. Focus on the reason and not the circumstance.

God bless,

Hi @BarnOwl and welcome to CyB. I can understand the concern you have about being baptized again because you had initially been baptized by a pastor who had fallen. It makes you wonder if that was a true baptism or a deceptive one.

From what we see in Scripture, I do not believe your baptism is invalid because of the later sins of the man who baptized you. Baptism is an act of obedience to Jesus Christ and a public declaration of your faith in Him. Its significance rests on Christ and His promises, not on the personal holiness of the person performing the baptism.

When Jesus commanded his disciples to baptize Matt 28:19–20, the authority came from Him. Likewise, the apostle Paul reminded believers not to place their confidence in those who baptized them but in Christ Himself 1 Corinth 1:12-17. Throughout Scripture, God has worked through imperfect people and even through those whose hearts were later revealed to be corrupt. Their failures did not undo God's work.

If, when you were baptized, you had genuinely repented of your sins, trusted in Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior, and were baptized as a believer in obedience to him, then I see no biblical reason to be baptized again simply because of the later sins of the pastor. :thumbsupx1

This was an issue much discussed in the early church. It was decided that the value of the sacraments (including baptism) didn't depend on the moral worth of the person performing them.
Which is just as well. Who would decide whether a sin was gross enough to invalidate all a minister's baptisms? How would they track down all the individuals who would need re-baptising?
I think it's instructive to look at the career of King David. He committed a gross sin in committing adultery with Bathsheba and murdering her husband. But the psalms that he wrote (both before and after) are still part of God's word to us; they weren't invalidated by his sin.
The fact is, God chooses to work through imperfect (sometimes very badly flawed) people.

Your baptism is valid. It doesn't depend on the person who happened to be pushing you under the water, but on your faith and on Christ's power.

God bless,

Your confession of Heartful Belief…
WAS TO and ABOUT the Lord Jesus.

IT WAS the Lord Jesus, WHO forgave you, FOR HAVING “HAD prior” not believed.

IT WAS the Lamb of God WHO BAPTIZED you.

The “person” dunking you in water, WAS Symbolic, For satisfaction of Human eyes to Witness.

The Lamb of Gods BAPTISM, is Regarding …the (forgiving) for having HAD, not believed;
the (restoration) Salvation of your soul;
the (receipt of Gods SEED) To Rebirth your spirit (ie.) truth in your heart;
the (receipt of Gods Power/Christ) … called the “Spirit of Truth”, to dwell With AND IN you;

Your “election /choice/ surrender/ submission, TO the Lord God”…

The Lamb of Gods “Response”…

Established a Once and Forever Unbreakable Bond between You and the Lord God Almighty.

(It would be A Shameful reflection UPON the Lamb of God…to Repeat His Baptism… effecting a belief that…
“HIS” Baptism Failed You.)

The highlight…was establishing a forever relationship between you and The Lord God… Not you and that pastor.

God bless you,

Glory to God,

Gosh, and that says absolutely nothing about the qualifications of the one officiating at the baptism.

A “human Baptizer”, The “qualifications”…are MOOT.

Even “John the (water) Baptizer”, knew he was a “foreshadow”, of The Lamb of God Baptizer…
John’s task, roll, was to introduce men, to such a thing called…BAPTISM.

When humans are “learning something NEW to them…they can hear, read, learn ABOUT the Word…
And they YEARN to “SEE”, something that examples the MEANING of the “WORD they are being introduced to.”

Dunking in water, represents, a Bodily Death, a condition of the body being unable to breath and sustain its life… thus a Death…
And then a “rising UP, back to Life, and breathing ability, life, restored.”

A foreshadow…of Gods Offering, for they who Trust His Offering and Word IS True.

Does the Individual… HAVE to Be dunked, sprinkled with water, hung on a cross, physically crucified, Mortally Dead, to be MADE, forgiven, restored, born Again?

Mortally Dead (Anciently)?
Yes.
Mortally Dead (If still following Mosaic Law)?
Yes
Mortally Dead (If under the Grace of God and A Better New Testament / Covenant)
No.

Glory to God,

Yes it's still valid. I wouldn't worry about the baptism. But it's unfortunate that you were involved with this pastor; hopefully you've moved on.

Anabaptist, (from Greek ana, “again”)

"Some call Me Anabaptist." - John Bunyan

I was Baptized three times...

Freewill Baptist
GARBC Baptist
Pentecostal Holiness

What that makes me I don't know. But as a teenager I did not mind a bit. Especially getting baptized in an actual river. I would call myself a Charles Stanley type Baptist. Charles Stanley's grandfather, the Rev. George Washington Stanley, a founding pastor and church planner in the Pentecostal Holiness Church.

I would simply pray about it and let God lead you from there.
