couldn't wait to be a grown-up too, right? Knowledge brings sorrow, Solomon says anyway...and meat just mostly makes ppl sick i guess. If you can keep your joy when the going gets tough i guess you're doing pretty good. It's all uphill from there :)

I saw something interesting I haven't really heard before on here. I wasn't sure where to put it. Because I am not sure whether this is a debatable topic or not.

But is Jesus Christ considered our brother?

This is the only verse I know about that mentions Christ in regards to being our brother.

But Jesus answered the one who was telling Him and said, "Who is My mother and who are My brothers?" And stretching out His hand toward His disciples, He said, "Behold My mother and My brothers! For whoever does the will of My Father who is in heaven, he is My brother and sister and mother."
Matthew 12:48‭-‬50 NASB

So I believe in the Holy Trinity and that Jesus is God. I always consider Christ as my Savior and redeemer, and address the Father in Jesus name. I only recently started addressing the Holy Spirit by name as I understand more about the Holy Spirit.

But I guess I never thought of Jesus as a brother. I don't know if I could even feel worthy to call Him brother. Thoughts?
MARIOLOGY I.Q. TEST
1) Why does Jesus use "mother" singular, and "brothers" plural?
2) If Jesus is putting His mother down in any way, wouldn't that mean He is violating the 4th Commandment (honor your parents) making Jesus a sinner???
3) If Mary did not do the will of God, how could Jesus have been born?
4) Is Jesus bringing His mother down to our level, or is He elevating those who do the will of God to her level as a perfect model of faith?
5) if Jesus is our brother, (which He is), what is HIS mother's relation to us?
+...
Pope Francis celebrated Mass in St. Peter’s Basilica, on January 1 being the Solemnity of Mary, the Holy Mother of God. In his homily, he emphasized that “we are a people with a Mother; we are not orphans.” “Mothers are the strongest antidote to our individualistic and egotistic tendencies, to our lack of openness and our indifference,” he preached.
“A society without mothers would not only be a cold society, but a society that has lost its heart, lost the ‘feel of home.’”

I do believe in the Holy Trinity, and yes, I can see now that Jesus Christ is our brother also. God amazes me to have so many different roles and attributes. I would much rather, out of reverence, address Him as my Savior, but for one with strained family ties (except my immediate family now), it is a huge comfort to know I have a Father, brother, and honestly I view the Holy Spirit more like a mother now, though I would definitely need to study this more. She is always a female in my dreams. And when I think of the dove descending, very gentle and comforting like a mother.

I sort of take the attitude of John the Baptist on this.

"As for me, I baptize you with water for repentance, but He who is coming after me is mightier than I, and I am not fit to remove His sandals; He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire. But Jesus answering said to him, "Permit it at this time; for in this way it is fitting for us to fulfill all righteousness." Then he permitted Him.
Matthew 3:11‭, ‬15

If this is Jesus' cousin by blood, and addresses Christ reverently in this way, I feel I should too. :)

But for the Trinity concerning Father and brother, I am a mom. I am a mom, wife, teacher, sister, friend, diaper changer, horrible cooker much rather eat outer. Lol.

I can see how the Trinity fits. They are all God in one and each part has different roles. Father, Savior, Comforter.

God amazes me and I am humbled by His love for us, no matter what one believes of Him. I cannot wait to ask God these questions when I get to Heaven. :) I wonder if we will just know automatically, or we get to spend the rest of eternity learning more and more about Him.

Just thoughts. Lol :)

Bless you, good post.

God is our Father, comforter , teacher, our husband, our lover, our salvation, our health, our peace, our joy, our hiding place, our strong tower, our deliverance, our inheritance, our final destination and a whole lot more.... :)

'For I know that my (kinsman) redeemer liveth,
and that He shall stand at the latter day upon the earth:'

(Job 19:25)

Hello @Mayflower,

I think of the fact that the Lord Jesus Christ became a man in order to redeem, taking on flesh and blood was necessary for Him to become our 'kinsman', and therefore our 'kinsman Redeemer'.(typified in the book of Ruth in Boaz). The duties or powers of the kinsman redeemer are found in Numbers 35.

The Jubilee laws given in Leviticus 25, use this Hebrew word for the 'purchase' or the 'redeeming' of a house or person. The office of 'the avenger of blood' is described fairly fully in Numbers 35, and it is this selfsame word that is used of the Lord Himself in every reference to 'Redeemer' in the A.V. of the Old Testament.

This fact of itself demands a miracle, the miracle of the Incarnation. For if the Scriptural Redeemer be God (Isa. 43:14; 44:6; 54:5) and at the same time next-of-kin to man, then nothing less than 'God manifest in the flesh' can satisfy all that is demanded. If the Lord Jesus Christ is the Redeemer, He must be both God and Man or the Scriptures will be broken, and we are left without a Saviour.

Praise His Holy Name!

Thank you
In Christ Jesus
Our risen and glorified
Saviour, Lord and Head.
Chris

Well, he isnt our mother.....

But neither is he our oldest brother who decided during a council of God his wife and his kids, to come to earth and sacrifice himself so that the rest of his brothers and sisters could get bodies of flesh and bone like their parents

Am I getting myself into something here? :D So it really is one of those topics that are debated? I will just see how this goes, but I know my answer will come digging into the Word...

Many people here would argue about the sun rising in the east.....

Well it comes across to me is the Point of what does or do they mean as to Brother.

I do not say Jesus my Brother, he is my Lord and Saviour and yes I am a Brother in him but I do or can get a bit uneasy when one starts peddling this Jesus is my Brother thing, because Satan can be hiding somewhere in the detail, so I do give mind to just what the hell are they on about with such, I start reaching for my gun so to speak, because I have come across some that are trying to pull Jesus down as just a man equal to us all, Socialist love to peddle this type of brother rubbish.

What I have heard of it is they love to use this all the time and never talk about Jesus Christ, it's a new age type of thing and they don't like anyone being above another because under Political Correctness such is a Sin. I have heard it spun on and on in the Catholic Church for some years and I have pointed out to them not to mention the removing of Jesus from the Cross and having them blasphemy crosses, you must always have Jesus on the Cross or such is nothing, the cross on it's own is rubbish, we preach a crucified Christ, he was crucified due to our Sinful nature and there it is for all to see, that's the works of man right their you in the face, due to them who were murders from the beginning is why that Jesus was put up on that bloody Cross.

To me Jesus is my older, wiser, big brother that 'made it'...and now is helping me get to where he is...so close to Dad that they are like one mind! One heart!
He is not a king, to me, as others say...our Dad is the King...it's His Kingdom...we are
His subjects, children, servants (because we want to be)...Jesus is like a light shining the way and pointing to Dad always, helping us as we stumble, gosh, he is an amazing soul, xxoo...it's all about HIM,HIM,HIM....our Father.
Jesus could be likened to our shepherd leading us right directly to our Father.
sigh....thank you, Jesus.
