Some people claim that repentance has no place in salvation, that you can believe in Jesus as “Savior” but never repent of your sin. That you can be saved even if you continue in chained to sin and iniquity just as it was before you became a Christian, that no change is needed. So what does Christ say:

Matthew 4:17 King James Version (KJV)
17 From that time Jesus began to preach, and to say, Repent: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.

Mark 1:15
And saying, The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand: repent ye, and believe the gospel.

Matthew 9:13
But go ye and learn what that meaneth, I will have mercy, and not sacrifice: for I am not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.

Mark 2:17
When Jesus heard it, he saith unto them, They that are whole have no need of the physician, but they that are sick: I came not to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.

Luke 5:32 King James Version (KJV)
32 I came not to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.

Jesus even repeated it for emphasis in describing to the people:
Luke 13:1-6 King James Version (KJV)
1 There were present at that season some that told him of the Galilaeans, whose blood Pilate had mingled with their sacrifices.
2 And Jesus answering said unto them, Suppose ye that these Galilaeans were sinners above all the Galilaeans, because they suffered such things?
3 I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish.
4 Or those eighteen, upon whom the tower in Siloam fell, and slew them, think ye that they were sinners above all men that dwelt in Jerusalem?
5 I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish.

Jesus told his disciples to proclaim “repentance and remission of sins” in his name to all the nations (Luke 24:47).
When the apostles preached in Acts, they called people to repent of their sins in order to be forgiven:

Acts 2:38 King James Version (KJV)
38 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.

Acts 3:19 King James Version (KJV)
19 Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, when the times of refreshing shall come from the presence of the Lord.

Acts 5:30-31 King James Version (KJV)
30 The God of our fathers raised up Jesus, whom ye slew and hanged on a tree.
31 Him hath God exalted with his right hand to be a Prince and a Saviour, for to give repentance to Israel, and forgiveness of sins.

Scripture is clear, repentance is absolutely necessary in order to be saved. Only those truly repent and turn to Christ and His righteousness in their lives, and away from their sin, will be saved on the last day.

Well, you'll find no disagreement here. Although I saw no mention of believing on Jesus' finished work.
Yes, indeed...

Joh 19:30When Jesus therefore had received the vinegar, he said, It is finished: and he bowed his head, and gave up the ghost

His work was finished in His flesh, but is it finished in us?
Heb 12:2Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.

Romans 10:9-15

9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt BELIEVE in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.

10 For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.
11 For the scripture saith, Whosever believeth on him shall not be ashamed.
12 For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek: for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon him.
13 For WHOSOEVER shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.
14 How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher?
15 And how shall they preach, except they be sent? as it is written, How beautiful are the feet of them that preach the gospel of peace, and bring glad tidings of good things!

Hear, believe, confess, repent, live, and walk in the Spirit, rejecting & turning from a habitual life of sin, then the work of Jesus' will be completed in us through our glorification at his second coming!

I am not saying repentance is necessary for salvation, but I believe repentance is necessary for peace of mind.

Acts 3:19 - Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, when the times of refreshing shall come from the presence of the Lord;

Salvation cannot happen except one repents!

Acts 17:30 - And the times of this ignorance God winked at; but now commandeth all men every where to REPENT:

Only God can draw you to Jesus,

Only God can bring you to repentance / Godly sorrow.

Only God can birth your spirit into His, and he does it all by the power of His Holy Spirit.

Only God can open ones heart.....

Born from above is an act of God through his Holy Spirit....it’s a Living spiritual birth...

God is the one who opens our hearts, to receive his living word....if you think you play any part in it, then you are deceived....all knowledge comes from God....

New International Version
One of those listening was a woman from the city of Thyatira named Lydia, a dealer in purple cloth. She was a worshiper of God. The Lord opened her heart to respond to Paul’s message.

New Living Translation
One of them was Lydia from Thyatira, a merchant of expensive purple cloth, who worshiped God. As she listened to us, the Lord opened her heart, and she accepted what Paul was saying.

English Standard Version
One who heard us was a woman named Lydia, from the city of Thyatira, a seller of purple goods, who was a worshiper of God. The Lord opened her heart to pay attention to what was said by Paul.

Berean Standard Bible

John 1

King James Version

1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
2 The same was in the beginning with God.
3 All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.
4 In him was life; and the life was the light of men.
5 And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not.
6 There was a man sent from God, whose name was John.
7 The same came for a witness, to bear witness of the Light, that all men through him might believe.
8 He was not that Light, but was sent to bear witness of that Light.
9 That was the true Light, which lighteth every man that cometh into the world.
10 He was in the world, and the world was made by him, and the world knew him not.
11 He came unto his own, and his own received him not.
12 But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:
13 Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.

Amen.

Repentance: Initial and subsequent

renderTimingPixel.png

Meaning of repent:
A change of mind, accompanied with regret and sorrow for something done, and an earnest wish that it was undone.
This is followed by turning to God for help.
There are two kinds of repentance depending on the timing of it.
First, there is the initial repentance of turning to God. Instead of worshipping idols or worshipping the world or worshipping yourself, you start worshipping God. This is the one-time event that leads to salvation, Matthew 4:
17 From that time on Jesus began to preach, “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven has come near.”
2Cor 7:
10 For the sorrow that is according to the will of God produces a repentance without regret, leading to salvation, but the sorrow of the world produces death.
Second, there is continual repentance, 1 John 1:
9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.
Paul spoke in Acts 26:
20b I preached that they should [Type 1] repent and turn to God and demonstrate their [Type 2] repentance by their deeds.
Besides turning to God, Paul pointed out a demonstration by practical works. This leads to Type-2 repentance. This is a continual repentant heart in the believer. This is to keep us faithful in choosing God's will in our daily life, Rev. 2:
5 ‘Therefore remember from where you have fallen, and repent and do the deeds you did at first; or else I am coming to you and will remove your lampstand out of its place — unless you repent.
Both kinds of repentance are necessary.
Does our repentance forgive future sins?
Yes but only in the first sense of the word. In the second sense, we need to have a repentant heart daily.

Without repentance one cannot have the gift of salvation!
2 Corinthians 7:10
10 For godly sorrow worketh repentance to salvation not to be repented of: but the sorrow of the world worketh death.

Leaving our repentance and belief up to God makes us useless in the kingdom.
He want ppl willing to submit to him not from the fear of terror but of a willing heart to seek and learn of him.

Just a note to self. Repentance does not mean forgiveness of sin God tells us to have our sins forgiven we must repent AND be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ. Forgiveness is granted through the baptism in the name of Jesus Christ not just upon repentance but by repenting and being baptized in Christ's name. See the holy scripture for proof.
