Often, it is. The LORD (YHWH) as the father is mentioned many times in the Old Testament.
Deuteronomy 14:
Now, Isaiah 42:
Deuteronomy 14:
NIV Deuteronomy 32:1a You are the children of the LORD your God.
Psalm 103:6 Is this the way you repay the LORD, you foolish and unwise people? Is he not your Father, your Creator, who made you and formed you?
Isaiah 63:13 As a father has compassion on his children,
so the LORD has compassion on those who fear him.
The above OT verses depict YHWH as a father. They are indications that the OT LORD (YHWH) is the NT Father.16 “But you are our Father, though Abraham does not know us or Israel acknowledge us; you, LORD, are our Father, our Redeemer from of old is your name.”
Now, Isaiah 42:
But then, Jesus claimed to have this glory before the world existed in John 17:8a I am the LORD, that is My name; And My glory I will not give to another.
Jesus' proclamation in John 10 can harmonize the above two verses:5 And now, O Father, glorify Me together with Yourself, with the glory which I had with You before the world was.
That's a divine mystery.30 I and the Father are one.
