Another thread about the purpose of evil made me think of this:

7For land that drinks in the rain often falling on it and that produces a crop useful to those for whom it is tended receives the blessing of God. 8But land that produces thorns and thistles is worthless, and its curse is imminent. In the end it will be burned." Hebrews 6:7-8

Is the rain a good thing or a bad thing that God sends on the land in the passage above?

Israel is on the edge of the Negev desert and suffered draughts. Rain is usually a good thing in that kind of environment. Rain is also a good gift in Matthew 5:44-45, But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you; That ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven: for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust.

Rain accomplishes two things depending on the time of year. Sowing time and harvest time. Pentecost was sowing time. The early rain. The latter rain is falling on parts of the earth today preparing the harvest. God is calling for laborers.
If ye being evil know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more shall your heavenly Father give the holy Spirit to those who ask Him?

Hebrews 6

6 Therefore let us leave the elementary doctrine of Christ and go on to maturity, not laying again a foundation of repentance from dead works and of faith toward God, 2 and of instruction about washings, the laying on of hands, the resurrection of the dead, and eternal judgment. 3 And this we will do if God permits. 4 For it is impossible, in the case of those who have once been enlightened, who have tasted the heavenly gift, and have shared in the Holy Spirit, 5 and have tasted the goodness of the word of God and the powers of the age to come, 6 and then have fallen away, to restore them again to repentance, since they are crucifying once again the Son of God to their own harm and holding him up to contempt.

7 For land that has drunk the rain that often falls on it, and produces a crop useful to those for whose sake it is cultivated, receives a blessing from God. 8 But if it bears thorns and thistles, it is worthless and near to being cursed, and its end is to be burned.

Matthew 5:45b "For he makes his sun rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the just and on the unjust."

@Ferris Bueller - Is the rain a good thing or a bad thing that God sends on the land in the passage above? I think the rain in this passage, reveals the type of crop a person has sown. Whether that crop is fruitful or whether it is worthless. It has to do with our personal growth in Christ.

"25The rain fell, the torrents raged, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because its foundation was on the rock." Matthew 7:25
In the context of what we're talking about here, it reminds of this:

"whom the Lord Jesus will overthrow with the breath of his mouth and destroy by the splendor of his coming." 2 Thessalonians 2:8
The glory of the Lord is good to some, not so good to others.

Blessings can't come from bad things?
Rain is good. Moisture is good and necessary. So which "bad things" are we talking about? Sure there are storms and hurricanes, but you were simply asking about rain.

Good.
Land was for mankind to care for, have, be sustained by it’s plants, minerals, nutrients....But, but, but, Mankind promotes men should be crammed into concrete tombs (aka cities) and import rotting food. So, land lays wasting away, worthless.

I think the passage is saying what results from the rain is the blessing. When the rain results in a crop useful to him who farms it that land receives the blessing. The land being a metaphor for a person, of course.
