Primarily, I was addressing the ecstatic experience that so often is touted as evidence of the Spirit.
While I don't point to such as proof of the Holy Spirit, and I don't say this to get people thinking that they should seek after such things, just the same, in my experience the Holy Spirit seems to include ecstasy and rapture. But not today so far!

I can't help but cry. I am not sad or depressed, but I suddenly feel His presence and I start crying. I suppose tears of joy, Amen?
I have to tell people to just ignore me, I get teary.

But that's what happens. Generally when I realize afresh His wonderful mercy!

I do think it's important to move beyond feelings and concentrate on resting in the certainty of Divine promises in Scripture as we search them prayerfully, and learning more about the Person and Work of Christ.

Hi farouk,

I completely agree, just the same, it seems that it pleases God sometimes to give wonderful feelings.

Much love!

I did go wrong concerning it. I began to think it was God speaking to me, and based on when it happened and what was going on at the moment it would happen, I began to think God was telling me something and became convinced I knew of something yet future that would occur. It never occurred. But I couldn't find anyone to tell me what it was or what it meant, so...I tried to figure it out on my own.
We might say it is by faith, but really it is our response to His call. How does one recognize it is Him that is calling? How does one respond correctly? In spite of what some may about it, the precise way we hear and respond may not much resemble the experience of others or even necessarily any example given in scripture. God is not so limited and we should never try to limit Him to our own experiences or beliefs.

Sometimes, like little Samuel, we may need ask for help from another person. Samuel asked old Eli, a man of God, who had really lost his own way, but he nevertheless correctly advised Samuel. Sometimes there be no "Eli" but God knows that better than we do and will help us we sincerely ask for something He knows that we need to know.

Correct! I needed to bring the would 'emotion' into this...
but you did it for me, thanks!! :)
Euphoria, exhalted inspiration, being infused with insight and clarity can not be mistaken as emotion. But, they are feelings.
How did you know people do all those things to get this feeling...kidding.:D
Yes, it is sometimes an intoxication, similar to first falling in love...making you want to shout from the roof tops.
.....
Sorry, guys, I have nothing to 'be careful' about when the Holy Spirit visits. Goofiest thing I've ever heard!
Lol...I have to confess I tried partying as a young adult...didnt last long....but that is what I heard a minister preach one time and I had to agree based off my personal experience.

Many of us have been Baptized in the Holy Spirit....Oh my gosh...when I was, that was one of the first times,
(cuz I felt the Holy Spirit many xs before that), BUT, this x....I was so 'giggly'...I had to control the energy like never before
and I found myself bouncing a bit (!), lifting up my heels bouncing as I stood with 6 others..
My gosh I could feel my aura went out about 6 feet...
and when I turned around to the 800-1000 people there...those in the first row were only smiling at me...one got up and handed
me a book of his as we were escorted to another room.
I guess he just felt like 'giving/ offering' to this person that obviously could hardly stay in her skin beaming! lol :D

Later, I read more about being filled with the Holy Spirit and different descriptions, and by golly...
I was 'slain in the Spirit'! Who knew? :)

So much happened since that time...oh my...some Gifts of the Holy Spirit...
I mean to tellya...I thought I was renewed 3 years earlier..well...I really got way more renewed after THAT! :)

I can talk about that but, I dunno if it would actually be about 'feeling the Holy Spirit', exactly.
...and it's not in the past tense.
I guess I could get the permission of the Orig poster/Thread starter :p to talk on and on more of the wonders of the Holy Spirit ...
but that might be better for the Praise Section. Ha, lol.
***Hey, the subject title says, "...and means to us"!...Well, then! :D:D

Or more graciously said....You, sir, have much wisdom and we all now where that comes from. xo

But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, working in us as the above. :)
I think these verses are important to remember also:

"...when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come. He shall glorify me: for he shall receive of mine, and shall shew it unto you." (John 16.13-14)

Amen, He also will abide with us if we really have His fear for wisdom, knowledge, and understanding in all things. Proverbs 9:10

Yeah, Let me take a look, some scholars say that Paul is the author, but some say Timothy from Italy, Hebrews 13:22 says it was written in a few words by Paul.
The main body of the text does not say Paul; so strictly speaking we don't know; although Paul would have been exceptionally qualified to write Hebrews. He was of course the Apostle to the Gentiles.
