Calvin was a great man who set the true church back on its feet, stopped the RCC reign of fear and set about a revival which still lasts today. Calvin did not create a new doctrine, he simply took the 27 books of the NT and neatly packaged them into 5 points, or 5 sentences. calvinism is Biblical because nothing was changed from what the apostles wrote.

the reason people dont like calvinism, like gismys, is because they dont like feeling so convicted about being a sinner. They think salvation should be easy and guilt free. So they make up false words to smear calvin and his writings.

im not only a spokesperson for calvin, im also a card carrying member of the cool calvinist’s club.:cool::cool:

Certainly, recalling Senate UnAmerican Activities Committee days, some Fundamentalists seem to go about their business with discourse such as: "Are you now, or have you ever been, a member of the Calvinist Club?"...

That's not the real reason. The reason Calvinism is rejected by the majority of Christians is because it is A FALSE GOSPEL. And if anyone would care to examine my exact quotations from Calvin's commentaries as well as his "Institutes" (as posted on other threads) you will see that Calvin was blatantly contradicting himself and the Bible when he created his "Reformed Theology".

dude, you tried that, none of us saw what you were looking for. Calvinism IS Biblical, and calvin never contradicted himself.

I was not "looking" for anything. I was showing you something which you failed to take seriously, because you have been "taken captive" by this man-made doctrine. I expected you to say "Wait a minute, John Calvin. On one hand you interpret the Bible properly, and on the other hand you contradict exactly what was in your interpretation. How do you excuse this error, this inconsistency, this double-mindedness?"

there was never any contradiction or double mindedness on calvin’s part. You just cant seem to understand calvin because your agenda is against him.

Interesting that while the Five Points of Calvinism date historically from 1618/19 at the Synod of Dort, Calvin died in 1564.

the view of dutch protestant church was that calvin, not arminius, was correct. This would eventually lead to the confessions being written by my denomination in 1647.

Oh I agree that the Dutch Reformed were probably right on that issue...

calvin wasnt well liked back in the day either it seems. Too many people like enoch111 running around trying to undermine him back then too.
I find it interesting that calvin, the man whom set the precedent for the reformation, was hated both by the RCC and other protestant groups, and yet his writings still help guide the protestant movement some 500 yrs later.

No one has a monopoly on truth; but it's certainly the case that, despite anything that John 6, Ephesians 2, etc., may say, the sovereignty of God is so detested by many in the professedly evangelical and fundamentalist camps that by extension those identified with it will also be vilified.

Enough!!!
CAlvin returned to Geneva, where he began a long series of reforms.

He redid the church on an apostolic model, with no bishops, clergy of equal status, and lay elders and deacons. All elders and deacons were members of the consistory, a church court. The city was moving toward theocracy, a religious government.

The moral code became criminal law in Geneva; sin became a punishable crime. Excommunication, or being thrown out of the church, meant being banned from the city. Lewd singing could result in the person's tongue being pierced. Blasphemy was punished by death.

In 1553, Spanish scholar Michael Servetus came to Geneva and questioned the Trinity, a key Christian doctrine. Servetus was charged with heresy, tried, convicted, and burned at the stake. Two years later the Libertines staged a revolt, but their leaders were rounded up and executed.
